It was an article from a print copy a friend brought to work to show me. I don't subscribe, and can't tell you what day it was. She saw it after reading the news story online at the tv station's website. This was the closest article to the printed article I actually read, but it's more concise and didn't go into detail online. KnoxNews changes their articles quite frequently online . . . especially when one of the "English Majors" that posts there points out an error (I picture them whacking them on the knuckles with their pointer):

Some say storm warnings exaggerated : National : Knoxville News Sentinel (http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/sep/03/some-say-storm-warnings-exaggerated/ - broken link)

As the first of the 2 million people who fled Gustav began to trickle home Tuesday from shelters, many grumbled about the food, the heat, the overcrowding, the uncertainty and the frustrating wait for the all-clear.

It's OWED to them (or so they think )
Thanks Rush. Look up corporate welfare and tell me what you find.

Well, good golly. If you got the internet, you can see how strong the storm is going to be. You don't need a lot of money to do that. In Florida, I had dial-up in my shack.

But even so, they can turn on the television and look at the satellite and radar.

And anyone from Florida through the panhandle and all along the coast should know how to interpret the size of a hurricane. If you can't, then you shouldn't live there.
Barb G:

I already referenced that article, which was not written by anyone at the Knox Sentinel. It's an AP article.

Don't you remember the news report on their spenditures? They got boob jobs, lap dances, new vehicles, vegas trips, etc.....all at the taxpayers expense.

I think one of the problems with the most recent evacuations is this.....when you take a people that live in government housing, that receive government assistance and food stamps, and you put them in a place where they actually have to fend for themselves, they are going to complain about it. They are outside their "gravy train" element and they don't know how to think or live. It's sad but a reality.

I had to go to a shelter once (I live in Florida and we were facing a cat 4) and you know what they gave us to eat? Bologna sandwiches, which I had to share with my kids. One of which had a very high fever and croup. Did we get nice cots like the ones shown in the red cross shelter.....nope, we slept on the concrete floor in the dark because the generator stopped working. No air, no lights and no food. Good thing I brought my own snacks because they locked down the whole town, closed all the bridges and initiated a curfew. No one was allowed to leave. I didn't complain though because we were all ALIVE.

Knoxville isn't the only one reporting problems with the evacuees. Check out wsmv.com, channel 4 news out of Nashville. They reported drunks hanging out at gas stations, shoplifting at the Wally worlds and students at MTSU being approached by drug dealers. There are other stories from campus that are not published, true or not, it is hard to say.
