I often hear positive things about Summerlin, Henderson, NW...what about SW?

It seems I seldom hear about SW at all...just curious if there is something that or some reason that people don't put it in the same category as the others or that it is often dismissed?

Agreed. If I lived in LV...it would be there.

I rented a house in the Southwest (near Hacienda and Rainbow) for a year before buying in March, and although I eventually bought elsewhere, I really enjoyed my time in the Southwest. The biggest plus was convenience to shopping, libraries, post offices, casinos, the airport ... everything was in the general vicinity. And the 215 Beltway was only three miles away. I could get to Henderson in 20 minutes if I needed to go there.

I think it's an exceptionally underrated area - certainly not perfect but generally a good value for the money. I bought in Summerlin because I wanted a newer home, and most of the newer areas in the Southwest weren't especially conducive to my commute to work (I work near downtown). But I'm a big fan of the Southwest. Some of my favorite restaurants in town are there, and I've continued to visit them even though I no longer live there.

The Southwest is a lovely area. It's also one of the newest areas in the valley. I never really paid too much attention to what was going on there during the boom time, but I remember going out to see a friend of mine, she bought a small house in Rhodes Ranch and I was curious to see what that was all about, I recall her talking a lot about all the new building that was going on there.

I was floored by the development that I saw along the way, shopping centers, hospitals, roads that were never there before...

Indeed, a very nice, new and convenient area to live.

I guess Tiger, it's not mentioned a lot, because a lot of us long timers don't frequent or know a lot about the Southwest area of the valley. It's new and all, at least to the long timers here.

Sort of like when they started building out Summerlin...we always asked the question.."they're building houses up there?????"

typical delvelopments out there with a few exceptions. houses tend to look the same, all squeezed in together with limited yard space, privacy, etc.

I live near Rainbow and Tropicana which use to be the Southwest but is now considered central. The houses are older and smaller but you can"t beat the location.

We in the SW want to keep those "gaps" DavieJ89 referred too. I've been here since '04 and love it.

When we lived in Vegas before, we were in the SW. It seemed to just be developing then. We lived right off 215 & Durango. That hospital right off the 215 was not there and there were no schools south of the 215 yet. I think it's developed so much since then.

When you say SW, do you consider Southern Highlands SW too? To me, SW would be the zips: 89113, 89148, 89139, 89178, but not sure if that's accurate or not.

How are the schools in that area? I would think most all of them would be quite new.
