found it here. Also lists some landmarks.
Las Vegas at Night : Image of the Day

For comparison, LA at night. You're right about black areas, still not as cool as Vegas

Vegas is cool and much brighter looking, but I just love LA. I I like seeing how the city "interacts" with the mountains and I love how you can see the Los Angeles/Long Beach harbor. LA is much better seen at night from the mountains. The coolest of it is looking down at the red and white lights of the cars on the freeway.

Dark sky advocates hate Las Vegas. Astonomers have to go into the desert in order to see a black sky.

I was driving back from San Diego a couple of weeks ago.. it was just after dusk and I was about 100 miles from Vegas on the 15. Noticed a really bright 'glow' to the north and was trying to figure out what the heck it was. First was thinking it was the sun still setting.. then after another 1/2 hour thought maybe northern lights or something. After I got closer to town, finally realized.. that was the Vegas lights..ha. I cant think of any city that is that visible from 100 miles on the ground. We definately put out some kilowatts!

It used to be a lot brighter. I remember when all the neon lights were in place everywhere you could see Vegas from the Utah or California borders.

No, they don't. Las Vegas benefits from being very very bright, dry, and having sod-all around it. All three make LV the brightest city. Astronauts aboard the ISS call Las Vegas, "Earth's Shining Beacon."

It is by far the brightest spot on the Earth's surface. No other city even comes close.
