Since I shared my thoughts on Paradise, Im now going to share my thoughts on living in Las Vegas, I will give an honest and fair opinion of this city

By Memorial Day, I will have officially lived here for one whole year...

My thoughts

The Good:

The west, and NW parts of town are the best, no doubt about it

Henderson is nice too

Lots of choices for shopping (ie food shopping, Smiths, Albertsons, Vons, all the hispanic chains, etc)

Lots of restaurant choices (too many to list )

Affordable housing

Lots of retail shopping choices

The city is very easy to navigate (the grid system)

I love the views of all the beautiful mountains on the edges of the city

Endless entertainment choices on and off the strip

Friendly, pleasant locals for the most part

The Bad:

Too much traffic congestion on the freeways

The longest red lights I have EVER seen

Terrible drivers

Finding a job (actually finding a job is easy, whats hard is finding a steady full time job that pays well)

Lack of a real downtown (I feel like Downtown LV isnt a real downtown business district, sure Fremont Street is ok, but theres no real tall office buildings, or big museums or performing arts centers, its just an old Strip IMO)

The windy weather, the wind is just ridiculous

The astronomical registration fees for cars

The astronomical car insurance

The lousy public education system

The lack of a pro sports team

I'm almost 3000 miles away from all the ones I love and care about

I dont feel like Las Vegas is home

I feel out of place here

While I do like living in Las Vegas for the most part, I miss all my friends and family back home. I havent seen them in a year, and LV just doesnt feel like home and I dont think it ever will be.

I'm planning to go back to Orlando. No the sky isnt falling, my life is going great out here in LV. It just doesnt feel like home to me, and I dont want to be anywhere that isnt "home"

My gf and I are moving in in 4 weeks to our place in CH. Im going to live out the lease there and in one year from now see if going home is REALLY what I want to do. If my feelings change, I may stay, if not I will be packing up and headed home.

I plan to go to school if I go home, most like study at UTI's Nissan Program. And I will use my experience at the Cosmopolitan to get a job at a big hotel in Orlando off International Drive in the mean time, or attend UCF and study their hospitality program

If I do return home, I plan to vacation in Las Vegas once a year. Even though LV will never be "home" to me, it will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never forget all the wonderful things and experiences I've been through here

We'll see how I feel in one year

I've been feeling this way more and more and I miss my friends and family back home so much I am sometimes in tears about it

Nothing wrong with wanting to go back to Orlando.

One year is a good amount of time to know which you prefer.

Go home for a visit. When you get home you will remember why you left. I did last year and couldn't wait to get back to Las Vegas. I still miss family and friends but you can visit them and they visit you. I keep my self busy.

Sounds like a plan, Davie. Well-thought out and fair. I wish you luck on whatever you decide, and admire that you've taken a step that many others just dream or talk about. You came...you saw...and you conquered...(and remember, nobody can ever take that away from you.) If nothing else...it will be a fantastic learning experience in your life.

Why wait? Leave now...before you get into legal trouble by signing a lease you'll be financially liable to fulfill.

You came, had some fun, got into some troubles, enjoyed..now it's time to get back to your family where you belong.

Seems you keep going back and forth on this issue, so call it done and leave. You'll only be real miserable for the next year if you stay because of the lease.

I think the "bad drivers" thing is the result of the fact that you can get drunk here 24/7 and lots of people apparently do! I see accidents being cleared regularly which is probably why the insurance rates here are higher.

I can understand the OP, though. I haven't been here long but I'm already saving to move on. LV was a good stop on my way from the east coast to the west coast. A year or two from now I'll probably move on as well.

The mountain views surely are awesome, though. Gunna enjoy this for a while, cry about the summer heat, and then continue my trek.

Best of luck to you, Davie.

P.S. Not one for taking 20 bucks to a casino to have a good time?

Dear OP,
Can you elaborate more? other than missing friends and family in Orlando, higher car registration fee and insurance, what make Orlando a better choice?

We talked ourselves into thinking that way also when we knew we had to return to Ohio to care for a dying parent. We remembered all the things that we thought were better than in Las Vegas to make a move seem better. Then we got here, and my family wanted to leave the minute we pulled in and saw all the big bugs flying around. All the things we talked ourselves into thinking wre better we noe realize it was not. Being around family is important to a point, but being out on our own was better, that is why we are coming back. We consider it home, family or not. We realize that family is, well family and thye are just as annoying as there for you. Just do as others have said and think real hard about what you miss and DO NOT sugar coat it. You left for a reason abd those reasons will still be there when you get back.

In NYC I paid over $250 to re-register my car (I do admit I have vanity plates) "MacGeek" DUH

I talk to my friends and family Over AIM, AOL, SKYPE, etc. No matter where we all live, we are all online.

I pay DOUBLE the car insurance in NYC that I pay here.. WTF?

Look, if a place isn't home, Move. But It's not the place, that is the problem.
