I spent 48 hours working at the Hilton LLV over the past 3 days. I managed a conference for predominately European and Australian attendees. Walking around the village made me sad. There was just no life. I went Friday for a pre-conference meeting, and walked down to grab a coffee at the little shop. There were 3 bicyclists who were there having coffee as well. Other than those 3, no other people in the entire village at 11:00a on a Friday. The weekend was pretty much the same, with the exception of 2 people sitting on the boat rental dock.

I spoke at length to the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Hilton. He absolutely shared my feeling that the entire area needs to be rebranded and PROMOTED. It has SO much potential. LLV should be to Las Vegas what Palm Springs is to Los Angeles. A desert oasis. Palm Springs doesn't brand itself as the "Desert Los Angeles". Why does LLV associate itself with Las Vegas?

The location of the village is the reason why locals do not visit it. Even residents in Henderson won't bother with the it and the rest in Clark County will do the same considering the other more convenient options we have in our neighborhood. Boca Park, Arroyo Market Square, Tivoli Village, Town Square...... all thriving places with retail, dining and entertainment.

I have to agree to a point. There really isn't much at LLV to draw locals. Even if there was, the access to the village is a chore to most (I don't mind, personally). It can be a long walk from the parking garage to the village, even if the casino was open. Think of the older people or others with limited mobility.

That said, there would have to be variety and something special to bring people. Maybe a casino will help, but is no panacea. Unique entertainment would bring younger people and families to the lake--and keep them coming back.

I know for fact that many locals who used to come out to the lake for the music events will no longer be back due to the inconsistent, and at times heavy handed, security practices a few summers ago. The no outside food and drink or cooler policy was overly enforced and there was little notice given.

This made people leave the property pretty upset. Many said they will never come back. At one point, there were as many as 5 security persons roaming around, and people do NOT like that kind of oversight. Its why you see some rioting and public outcry about police now--but I digress.

The fact is, more was done in the one summer to turn enough locals away that would otherwise keep the village going. If you question my statements, ask the (remaining) store and dining establishment owners how their numbers compare now, to 2012.

Major fail on not allowing people to bring food and drink. While allowing people to bring their own takes away money from local LLV establishments that night (perhaps), it ignores the fact that people will come back and spend money for nice meals or special occasions at some other time.

Maybe time will heal the wound, but it remains to be seen if LLV ever develops what it will take to attract locals. I hope so, as I like LLV and enjoy coming now and then for dinner and music with my family.

I'll do something I don't usually do - post a negative review of something in the LV area.

I've been suckered twice now by LLV cheerleaders telling me everything is so much nicer and better out there. "Business is back and the place is beautiful." So, I headed out, with guests in tow, to show them around. The people with me were very disappointed, as was I. Frankly, LLV is depressing and not worth the journey - for locals or for visitors.

So, with apologies for being negative, count me as another person who won't be back to LLV. I don't think I can say that for any other location in the LV area.

Bill

I DO love it there. It just makes me sad. The POTENTIAL is there, but it is squandered. Maybe with the new "sheriff in town" they can put some bodies in those empty facades.. or will it be another failed attempt like the ones before.

I don't know the answer, but I'm hoping it turns out well. The village COULD be great!

My take on LLV was that it was not designed to be a day destination for people from other parts of metro Vegas. It was supposed to be it's own self contained community, with the village at it's core, given the LLV residents no reason to go out into greater LV. Of course, this has proven a failure.

Nothing wrong with the village that roof tops won't cure. Candence will help and also the completion of the rest of LLV.

Bad news is that it will likely take another ten years.

Default Llv6

We also brought guests to the village and were totally embarassed when we came upon some "locals" wearing "wife beater" t-shirts, drinking beer from a cooler, dropping f-bombs, every other word, with a little kid throwing whatever he could get his hands on into the lake! Don't think that's what we need at LLV. No thanks

I'm looking for an attorney who can assist in a local Nevada matter..... specifically HOA related. Any suggestions?

I remember the concert series but even those events were not enough for me to visit the village. Now, if they open the lake to the public, then maybe I'll drop by to go kayaking at the lake. I could put my kayak to use once again instead of it collecting dust in my family's garage.

As far as the village, its competition is doing well and expanding like Town Square and Tivoli Village. Even the District is more fun and easily more convenient than the village at Lake Las Vegas.
