I was there for the first time a month ago. I had 5 nights, and still ran out of time. My favorite part of the trip, by far, was Fremont Street. I LOVED the atmosphere, the live band in the street, and the lower cost of everything compared to the strip. I wish I wanst wearing a dress that night because I wanted to do the zip line! I'm planning to return in the spring and will be staying on Fremont. Might skip the strip completely.

I did months of research and found lots of "different" things to do. We did see the Atomic Testing Museum, but were not able to see the Neon Boneyard. They are not open "regular" hours and they next available tour was later in the week when we were already going to be gone. That bummed me out as I was REALLY looking forward to it.

My highlights were the MGM Lions, the Bellagio fountains (see them in the daytime and after dark both!), and Casears Palace. We spent hours wandering around the resort and Forum Shops. The place was so amazingly gorgeous. We also were able to sneak into the pool area (we were staying at another hotel) which was the most amazing place, I didn't want to leave.

WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES. People kept telling me this, and I really thought I could handle the walking. I workout 6 days a week and I walk all the time. The walking still kicked my ass! Everything is so big there it seems close but it's not. In fact, on the strip I swear things actually get farther away as you walk toward them! The monorail comes in handy for getting from one end to another.

I fell in love with the climate and the city. Hope you have a great time!

There is no travel destination that compares to Las Vegas for casinos, bright lights, and world class cuisine.

I thought that the world's largest flashlight was out the top of the Luxor.
I have even seen it on a Boston/LA flight from 35,000 feet up.

Glad you liked it and took the time to write a positive review.

Yeah, I still have a hard time with seeing tourists walking the Strip, but even worse, walking from the Strip to downtown ...through the naked city area ...at night. The Strip is four miles long, and it's another four from the north end of the Strip (Sahara Avenue) to downtown Fremont Street. Oh well, I just still miss being able to park in front of a hotel and walk in the front door without it being a forced march. Now you can walk four miles inside the hotel.

Many of Las Vegas' best attractions are not in Las Vegas. Next time you should try to make it to Hoover Dam. You'll be glad you did. I haven't done the tour down inside the dam for a long time, but it is also worth the effort.

Also, Red Rock Canyon. Was there today and weather was perfect. We stopped at the "new" visitor center. It's been there a few years but we never stop. Figured that was for tourists. Today we decided to, just for the heck of it, and were blown away. It's a fantastic Nat'l Park Visitor Center. We''ll be adding that to our tour agenda for guests for sure.

And, a drive up to Mt. Charleston is a treat anytime of year, especially fer y'all flatlanders.

I DID see Hoover Dam. It was pretty cool. We didn't go inside, but it was definately a must-see on my list. I didn't list everything we did in my post. We did A LOT. We really crammed it all in. The only thing we didn't do on my list was going to the top of the Stratosphere. We ended up spending so much time on Fremont Street we didn't make it there.

We didn't walk the entire time. A friend met me there from Southern California (I'm from Iowa) and she had a car, so we did take that to downtown and Hoover Dam. We also took it to the south end of the strip when we went to a show at Excalibur (The Australian BeeGees... AWESOME show!) and to see the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. My friend left a day earlier than me and my travelling companion did so she dropped us at the Atomic Testing Museum. We walked back to the strip from there. A bit far but not too bad.

To the person who said wearing a dress is the best time to do the zip line...for who? Me or those underneath that get a free show?

I have decided to move to Las Vegas (which is the reason I started reading this forum) in the next year or so. I'm sure to some it seems crazy to decide that after one visit, but I can't explain the feeling I got when I was there. It felt like it was just where I was supposed to be. I am a reasearcher and a planner, so my goal is late 2012/early 2013. it will happen, I just don't know how yet.

LOL...you sound like me. My first time here, I knew I would live here and I had not even been off the Strip/Fremont. I loved Fremont and stayed there on my 2nd visit at the Golden Nugget. Loved it!!! It was nice because it was March and the weather wasn't great, but it didn't matter under the canopy! I am now a proud owner of a home here, but still living PT in MI, which is soon to end as my house sold and when I leave here Thursday to go back, I will have 30 days to pack and get out! LOL! (well, actually not funny as I am freaking out at the daunting task of packing everything up! But, I have to keep my eyes on the prize! My husband lives here FT)

It's true, the Strip is like an optical illusion, everything appears closer than it really is. Been there, done that. And in less than comfy shoes. I will never understand those who wear heels doing all that walking.

When my father-in-law came to visit, he called us because he was lost. My husband asked what street he was on and he said, "I don't know, but I can see the Stratosphere!" My husband responded, "Dad, I can see the Stratosphere and I am 30 minutes away in the NW!!!!" Duh.
