Uh, oh. Apologies to everyone. I got yet another Dubai email, this one re: poop, and then I proceeded to step in it. Because I've been getting emails nearly everyday ever since they built that huge hotel, plus the fact that tourism is the big thing in Dubai right now, I had it screwed up in my head with Macao. Tomato tomahto. I thought I had read RJ articles about local casino owners investing there. Must have been Macau/Macao. Never been to either place and have no desire to go since I have what is probably a mistaken idea that both are really nothing but what the poop truck video makes them out to be - sewers. My wife and I like to travel and have adventures, but other than Japan, Asia and the middle east are last on our list of places to go. Just sounds disgusting there.

So ─ never mind.

You may continue with your personal attacks now. I was wrong.

I would be more worried about California native American casinos over Dubai.

Nothing to worry about. Most people I know who go to Vegas never step foot inside an Indian casino in GULAG. I live within 15-30 minutes of 3 Indian casinos, never once wanted to even take a drive there.

Macau is an issue, IMO, as most big money Asians have no reason to sit in an airplane for who knows how many hours to get to LV when Macau is a much shorter trip and offers same amenities.

If Im not mistaken they have a little bit more to offer. Without looking it up, I think they have more Asian-y games, and I think prostitution is legal. Maybe it was marijuana??? Cant remember, but they are a little bit more liberal. Either way, that trans pacific flight is around 15-18+ hours depending on where your coming from and going to. All in all its not very good considering global wealth is being concentrated in Asia, so that leaves Las Vegas with people from LA and mid westerners on a once in a lifetime vacation.

Given the huge amount of tourists from Asia who still flock to Vegas, I don't think Macau has the same appeal.

Maybe you haven't been aware of what an international destination the U.S. is, and how many of them come to Las Vegas specifically. We have always gotten at least half our visitors from California, but Las Vegas has always depended on the high roller for the nig money games, not families from Iowa. It's the wealthy foreigner that doesn't mind losing 2 million in a night that pays the light bill. That's hard to comprehend but that's the way it is.

Understood. Thank you for responding.

Like some of the crew here, I've also been to Dubai. And, from what I saw and experienced, it's a different demographic v. Las Vegas.

The two connections I can think of:

1) Dubai's sovereign wealth fund, Dubai World, was a partner in building City Center.

2) All the best hookers are relocating from Las Vegas to Dubai (or so I've been told) because business is better.

Oh yeah, they both offer skiing in a location where you'd least expect it.
