Restaurant and shop sales receipts in hand, gong back to mid December. Would LOVE to see yours and simply know it won't happen.

Tired of arguing with clueless, and it seems there is a number on the board. Sadly.
I live here and work on the strip. You on the other hand don't live here, [mod cut-- rude, off topic] Do you even realize that stores don't need to be full to make money? Our sales have been 20-30% over goal every month. My store may have had only 20 customers a day, but a sale average of $900 ain't shabby. [mod cut-- rude, personal] And for January, I am overseeing one of our stores being built at the airport and the airports picked up tremendously. Everybody knows the 1st 3wks of december are the slowest in Vegas. [mod cut-- rude, off topic]

Understand how stores can make it inside the hotels... Most of the prices at the stores in the hotels are very high. It doesn't take a crowded store to make the numbers. Lets take a Rolex store for example... You may see noone in the store all day.. then 1 person comes in and buys a $95,000 watch.. they made the numbers for a week even if noone comes in...

A clothing store doesn't need the traffic either. If the goal is $4500 a day..it doesn't take much to get there.. when a tshirt sells for $160, a dress shirt for $280, or a pair of jeans for $497. People do pay this much for clothes. Jackie Jackson (MJ's Brother came in on one night in December, spent $690 on 3 TSHIRTS!)

At the souvenier stores in a hotel, the markup is between 8-9 times the wholesale price... money to be made.

Are times like they were, of course not.. but don't tell me the town is deserted, rooms are next to free, and the used to be $50 buffet is now $9.95

I too work on the strip.
In a nightclub where E V E R Y single night since June, at least a case and a half of $1500 a bottle champagne gets sold to different people.
Forget how much vodka we sell.
The numbers would blow your mind.

These corporations that run this town have no idea about customer service. How hard is it to train the staff to smile, be courteous, professional, and helpful? I don't want to be treated like crap when I'm on vacation, I can get that at home.
And where exactly in the US do you see these great attitudes at hotels and in service places that draws any kind of tourism? And the happy to be working comment is laughable, people working in hotels are rarely happy to be working, they are just trying to survive another day. Ever dealt with a bellman in Manhattan? If you don't tip him $5 a bag he acts like he won't be able to feed his kids tonight, but sure doesn't stop those hotels from charging $300+/night for what some would call a closet sized room.

I disagree. Over the past two years, service has improved, people seemed friendlier and very courteous. I wonder if hotels and restaurants were able to weed out some of the less capable during this recession.
When my wife complained about a small stain on the our carpet, the hotel staff came up within ten minutes to clean it. When I called to set up our reservations, the hotel person (I dont know what their title would be) spent over twenty minutes arranging the reservations, accommodations for our friends, dinner reservations at three different restaurants, and 2nd row seats for Jersey Boys.
We ate at relatively nice restaurants and had "excellent" service at them all, except one which we would rate only as "good." We had extensive conversations with the waiting staff, learned about their family, what brought them to Las Vegas, etc. They were extremely friendly, and of course earning a nice tip. This was not always the case in the past, when the expectations were to get a nice tip for mediocre service.

When people complain about the poor service/attitude of Vegas strip, I always wonder if they brought it upon themselves? A lot of people act and do things they normally would not in their home towns. Especially since they may feel that they will never meet any of the people on the strip ever again. Most want the 'Hangover' experieince. They should also get the 'Hangover service' that comes with it.

The last time I was in Las Vegas I was very impressed with the service. I can't think of one bad experience to be honest. Even the young lady that I spoke with at one of the stores at the NYNY who, as our conversation went on, revealed that she was regretting her move to the city was extremely pleasent and helpful. (In all honesty her story about moving to Vegas boiled down to she moved there with the hopes of gambling her way to riches, and it didn't pan out.)

I live in North Carolina right now, and trust me all that Southern Hospitality stuff is a joke (at least here) If you want to see poor service come to the Cackalackies. The other tourist destinations that I've been to in the past year; Gatlinburg TN, Myrtle Beach SC, Niagara Falls and New York City have all FAILED in level of service when compared to my experiences in Las Vegas.
