I'll be honest, moving to Vegas means I'm going to miss Bar Golfing on Mill Ave on the weekends. So easy with all of the bars so close together and so easy to get into (from what little I remember).

On topic, there has been a couple of times when my spot on the guest lists at the clubs at the Wynn/Encore properties and at Marquee have fallen through and I ended up paying $20+ cover (as a slightly above average looking woman). But with these clubs you get what you pay for, with popular resident DJ's (Skrillex, Afrojack, Calvin Harris, the list goes on). It happens to both locals and tourists. And if you're a man, forget guest lists altogether. If you want lower cover charges try one of the lower-tier clubs like LAX (inside Luxor) or one of the bars/clubs in NYNY (ie: Coyote Ugly, Rok).

I have also had a lot of fun on Mill avenue. Aww, those were the days.

One of the things I was looking forward to when I move to vegas is the nightlife. i assumed there MUST be places off the strip that the locals goes to hang out but after reading people's responses, it looks like my assumption was wrong. so sad. i guess i'm going to have to go from going out every weekend to only clubbing once a month

At some point in your life you were going to stop going out every weekend anyway. Nothing says you cant go out every weekend, but Las Vegas is a world class city, Houston is not. Locals would rather not pay $40 cover charges every weekend to hang out with someone from Peoria on their once in a lifetime vacation.

It was a sad day when "The Beach" closed. That was a joint where the locals and tourists mingled. The bartenders used to jump on the bar when "Greased Lightning" came on and everyone joined in to the admittedly cheesy dance. I also used to hang at Pink-ees. Pink pool tables, porn all over the bathroom walls. I literally ran onto a member of Quiet Riot when partying there.

As we got a little older, we moved on to the Armadillo at Texas Station. They had a disco ball shaped like an Armadillo and used to feature the original 80's cover band, "Loveshack". You didn't look like an idiot in there in your thirties.

I guess we left you youngsters with fewer options. I think Fremont Street will have a bunch after the Zappos guy gets done with it.

Houston IS a world class city. It's the energy capital of the world with the largest medical center in the world that is renouned for its cancer treatments. The #1 hospital in the US for cancer treatments is in Houston. It's also THE most diverse city in the US ahead of LA and NYC. Not to mention it's the 4th most populous city in the United States right behind Chicago. 22 Fortune 500 companies have their headquarters in Houston...only New York City house more Fortune 500 company headquarters than Houston.

My question then would be why do you want to leave Houston? I already know why. I honestly have never lived there, but I have been through Houston many times, and I would describe it as a world class dump. Although the club scene here sucks, you still would be much better off coming here as Las Vegas is a much better place to live overall.

world class dump? not according to all the people that's moving to Houston right now. and definitely not according to all the Fortune 500 companies that decided to put their headquarters in Houston. Did I mention Houston is the 4th fastest growing city in the country? the only reason why i'm leaving Houston is because of my job. otherwise, i would've stayed here if i could.

Then stay there and go out every weekend. All those things may be true, but I have been to Houston and would not want to live there. And I dont think a Houston vacation is at the top of anyone's list.
