So moved to North Las Vegas (near Aliante area) 1 1/2 months ago, and can't find a place that sells a good, thicker, steak. All the steaks seem to be thin except for filet mignon. Back home I liked getting good priced top sirloin thick cut, and it was a great steak at a very good price.

I like to cook steak 1-2 times a week and don't want filet mignon at $15+ a pound.

Any suggestions on where to go? Who has good steak prices? Even if its in other parts of town, could always get it while out and about.

Thanks!

Oh wanted to add I tried Fresh & Easy, Albertsons, Smiths and Winco.

Try Village Meat & Wine, and / or Larry's Larry's Great Western Meats - Westside - Las Vegas, NV

I also like Winder Farms. They deliver: Winder Farms - Ribeye Choice Steak (2-10oz) customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

Village Meat and Wine is not cheap. But they sell the best beef in the valley. Ask to be put on their email list -- they often have excellent specials.

John Mull Meats is the oldest butcher shop in town, and their Road Kill Grill has the best BBQ. Plus when you go deer hunting you can drop your deer there for processing. Try it. You'll be really glad you did. And you'll see a bit of old Las Vegas history.

I also vote for Larrys. But my wife swears that she finds the best meat at Costco. There was something on Nat'l TV about that.

I'm a foodie and I happen to think one of the most important things to be aware of is not the thickness of the meat but the prime quality. Have tried all of the stores except the private markets previously mentioned and the only big chain I am aware of that sells "prime," is Smith's. At least the Smith's near me at Lake Mead/Rampart. You can also find it at Whole Foods for a ridiculously high price. I would think since the prime meat at Smith's is kept in the butchers section, it would be no problem to ask him to cut you what you want thicker. Most of the other stores, Albertson's and Von's, will advertise Black Angus but when you question them, they are only selling select or choice cuts and all Black Angus happens tomean is the animal it came from was a bigger Black Angus. The label has nothing to do with whether it will be prime, choice or select.

That's interesting to know. What is the quantity you must buy? At Smith's, they are $14/lb.

The packs are usually 4 steaks around $55-$65.

My Smith's doesn't sell Prime beef. Wish it did.
