No, not like that at all.

If it's funded by rich Chinese they will make money off what they know..the Chinese tourist market...silly yanks will be an afterthought...might be some darn good dim sum though.

I kid you not, rich Arabs beat service staff.

I still think this is a disastrous idea...why would they go to Vegas when they can go to Macau? .if they come all the way over here i doubt they wanna do China lite...what i fear is this will become is a package tour dumping ground...Like when the middle class chinese dude does a 12 day tour of the us for 6995 or whatever and this is his two day stop on the way to LA...UGHHHHHH...The palce will always be packed with hordes of non tipping non spending two meal a day included tourists from BFE china.
I think your analysis is wrong. The Chinese from Red China think that tipping is a form of class distinction. Waiters and cocktail waitresses are merely doing their job and their capitalist dog masters should be paying them a decent wage so that they don't have to beg for tips.

If you people read the paper, you will see I'm correct in my assumption that they will cater to Asian people.

[mod cut--rude/orphaned]
Christian Goode said "the company's initial plan is to target Asian middle-class visitors with disposable income looking to travel in the United States."

Goode is Genting Senior Vice President of Development. Malaysia-based Genting Group, the company that will build Resorts World.

Thank You, no need to apology.

ONLY AMERICANS TIP SO MUCH because the employers do not pay enough. I lived in Europe and tipping is way less there, especially in the south.

In China all the service people are paid adequate wages and tipping is simply non-existent.
Actually I like it that way. The price they show is the ultimate price you pay. There is no "tax" either (already included in the price).

If you work in the industry you'd know a lot more than what they write in the paper. You would also know the "story" of a casino is just a working idea to get either investment, approval or initial visits. You can't go out and say well we are building a casino so people come gamble, such blatant simplicity doesn't work even if that is how you are going to earn 90% of your profit.

Genting's history has been to tell a good story which does attract a certain crowd to begin with, but within a year they are operating a middle of the road casino catering to gamblers, not visitors. They did this in Malaysia where they claimed they would attract people from all over the region with a nice amusement park, a good location and a classy casino. It could even be attractive for those who don't gamble, notably the majority Malay population who don't gamble much for religious reasons. What they really had in mind were the millions of ethnic Chinese people living in Malaysia and Singapore to come up and gamble and if you go now that is pretty much what the casino is about. They got into Singapore by doing the same thing, where now the Universal Studios park is doing ok, but the casino is really bringing in the gamblers and starting to give LV Sands a run for its money. They told Singapore the casino would attract visitors from all over Asia, be a nice family friendly alternative to Macau. What it has mostly attracted are Singaporeans which is what the government didn't want and ethnic Chinese from within a 2 hour radius. The visitors have indeed come for the amenities and nice hotels nearby, but they rarely spend much in the casino.

I'm a New Yorker, and I generally avoid New York, New York. So that blows this theory right there

I don't know if the theming really matters. I don't know how well Vegas will be able to absorb another major casino resort in the timeframe stated, but I'm encourage that Genting is willing to try. It also sounds like they have their own cash to build this, so it's unlikely to be another start-stop fiasco like Eschelon turned out to be. Filling in some of the holes at the top of the strip will do good things for Vegas. Not to mention the few thousand jobs this will create will do nice things for the economy.

Now someone needs to get Fontanbleu finished.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, Asians and Asian-American tourists represent 2-3% of the total tourists to Las Vegas every year. Why would they cater only to that crowd at a 3500 room resort? It makes no sense. Also, they are trying to get a casino in Macau as well. They also own casinos in New York and over in England. They're one of the biggest casino companies in the world. Why is it such a problem they want to be on the strip, too?

Interesting post from everyone. I will compliment the folks who have been around the world to other countries or know about their cultures and tipping. Back to the new resort planned here in LV. Right now about 40 million people visit LV many come here for conventions. The biggest things that mitigates more people visiting here is Transportation cost (flying) hidden hotel cost (resort fees) and transportation on the strip (cabs). Las Vegas is now in a Global Market for gambling. So lets take a look at that. China the culture of the far east is they spend their money on 1.Housing 2.Education for their children 3.Gambling.
Just do the numbers their population is over 3 BILLION our population in America is about 400 million. Now switch to Europe and their culture. They get on average 6 to 8 weeks a year vacation time. Many companies pay for your vacation and your family included to go. The French Rivaria is a popular one. Spain is another. So the resorts charge a fee and all is included for the employee. To put this in comparison you can buy group rates much cheaper. For example in Japan they are golf crazy but they only have 10 golf courses in the country. It cost about $10,000.00 to play a round of golf there. What they do is fly over here to America on group rates and stay 1 or 2 weeks and they get all of the golf they can play in the package. Example Myrtle beach SC their is about 126 golf courses there how do they survive importing Japanese tourist. The Japanese have bought up many of the golf courses and surrounding housing. So back to the new Chinese casino.
The future tourist sites in the world will be resorts and a package deal for people. Similar to the way Disney does their thing. The difference between America and the rest of the world is the airlines in other countries are either state owned or subsidize because the operate in a socialist government country. You will see the Chinese bring big number of tourist here to LV for vacation because they have a 3 billion person market. Now the $64.00 question is how are the other corporations (casinos) in Las Vegas going to react it appears a new Sheriff is in town and that ought to make them jumpy lets hope they don't stick their heads in the sand (pun intended) and realize mega resorts are the next thing for the future for tourism. Why do you think Anderson and Wynn are investing $$$Billions in China and Spain building Mega Resorts

The last thing this town needs is for a casino to close. Do you even live here?
What about the people that are gonna get jobs there? They should loose their jobs?
Let's pretend for a second they are going to cater to the Chinese.
And?
So?
It's still money being spent in the state.
It's gotta trickle down.
Stagger,

You should research the Trans-Pacific Partnership “free trade” agreement. Basically, the TPP is NAFTA on steroids. It severely limits the power of the local, state and federal government and removes the authority of U.S. courts. In essence, foreign corporations can skirt U.S. law and sue before a tribunal of three private sector lawyers under World Bank and U.N. rules to demand taxpayer compensation for any domestic law that investors believe will impact or diminish potential future profits.

Under TPP, foreign corporations would receive:

Compensation for loss of “expected future profits” if local health, labor or environmental laws limited their ability to do business
Rights to acquire land, natural resources and factories without government review
Risks and costs of offshoring to low wage countries eliminated
Special guaranteed “minimum standard of treatment” for relocating firms
Right to move capital without limits
New rights covering a vast definition of investment: intellectual property, permits, derivatives
A ban performance requirements and domestic content rules (no “made in the USA,” “buy local” or “green jobs”). An absolute ban, not only when applied to investors from signatory countries
Ability to extend drug patents and limit production of generic medicines that are used for global health programs
Rollback of regulations that were put in place to prevent another global economic crisis such as “too big to fail” remedies.
