yes it has to be a NEVADA titled vehicle in which tax was previously paid.

Good to know.. Most states charge tax at the DMV, so they can collect tax based on the value of the car every time it is sold.

when I buy a used car here, dealer does all the documentation work right? I don't need to go to DMV. I pay everything at the dealer and will receive the title in mail?

How does it work if I buy it from AZ or CA? I register it myself after driving it back right? how about sales tax I pay at the dealer right?.

Dealer Vehicle Sales Outside of Nevada

And when in doubt, email the Nevada DMV because they actually respond rather quickly

I'm finding that most sellers are aware of the tax avoidance in buying a used car from a private party and overprice their vehicles.

There's also a ton of grifters here trying to pull a fast one on you. I looked at a half dozen cars where the seller wasn't disclosing a significant issue (i.e. salvage title, poor condition, engine issue, etc.).

Never buy a used car from a private party without having a mechanic look at it first.

...and also carfax it.

In point of fact, I d check the VIN on a cope of places on the car, including the engine block.

Just remember Carfax is not always accurate. The easiest way to tell if there has been body work is to check the bolts on the body pieces. If there has been work, the bolts will always indicated that they have been removed. Carfax only reports most incidents that have been reported to the insurance company, and will weed out the total losses and salvaged titles for the most part. Again, not 100% accurate, but not a bad place to start.

Also, beware of any vehicle that comes from Louisiana or Texas in the past decade. Lots of flood damaged cars.

I would recommend using autocheck vs Car Fax. On my last used vehicle purchase Carfax showed the car as clean no accidents. Autocheck found a rather significant accident.

awesome thanks for the replies. can you guys recommend a couple good shops for pre-buy inspection? (that does engine compression test)

but even if carfax and mechanic check out, a car that's 10,15 years old could still have many hidden problems right? little problems here and there that you need to fix, replace part etc. or not true if it's well maintained?

10-15 YO cars are always likely to need work. It may not be a catastrophic failure, but little niggling things are always going to be popping up. Unless you're poor and desperate, or have the knowledge, tools, and capability to do your own repairs, I wouldn't buy a car that old.
