Hello, El Nino!

https://www.longpaddock.qld.gov.au/s...0daysoivalues/

Are you ready for a wet winter? (I think it's going to be a doozy)
Can you explain what that means? How that number suggests a wet winter for the Southwest. You have peaked my interest.

A reading below -8 signals a likely El Nino season with high rainfall in the western states. The key is watching how far south the jetstream will dip. NOAA has already predicted a greater than 90% chance of a strong El Nino this winter and an 80% chance it will last into Spring.

We may get a lot of rain (and flooding/landslides) but as mentioned earlier, it doesn't necessarily mean our water problems are solved. We'll probably need a few years like this to totally get back to "normal."

Thanks for the insight.

It is hard to predict the weather, but ...

My predictions for Northern California this rain season.

1) Reservoirs will fill and there will be flooding downstream.
2) 'Experts' will say "THERE IS STILL A DROUGHT! WE NEED TO CONSERVE WATER!"
3) Every local TV news station will say, at least once, "All this rain is bad for the farmers".

Don't drive through any flooded streets this winter.

The Nevada water authority has been implementing many ways to ensure that Las Vegas and the valley will continue to get water even if the drought continues.

Below is an article regarding the new straw that has been built and getting ready to come on line.
