A dead body was recently found in the house next door to us. The house has been taped up for a while (I'm assuming it's under investigation).
  • Do we have any right to know what's going on?
  • Shouldn't we be informed if it's something dangerous, like a homicide?
  • The house smells like death and is covered in flies. Is this a health hazard? What can be done?
  • When are they going to clean up? Are they going to put the house back on the market?
This situation has lowered our quality of life. We feel unsafe, sickened by the odor, and creeped out. There are literally hundreds of flies in the windows. I know these things happen, but I can't imagine living this way for several months. I'd like to know what our options are (besides moving).

Welcome to Las Vegas!

Seriously, this happens. A teacher was murdered in my neighborhood. Two cops were murdered (execution style) half a mile from my neighborhood. You moved to a place called "Sin City." What did you expect?

Here's the deal:

You can't do anything about it.

And so, you can put up the house for sale or inform the landlords that you will be moving.

Which one will you do?

PS: I recommend Glade plug-ins!

I highly doubt this situation involves a suspected homicide otherwise the police would be interviewing neighbors for possible
information.

I believe the clean up would be the responsibility of the property owner and if its a bank the property is likely to be auctioned as is.

Yes...I think resolution to your satisfaction could take a few months.

SoHoVe is right, it's likely not a homicide, or you'd have been interviewed by now to see if you saw or heard anything.

You could try calling the city (or county, whichever applies) health department and report it as a health hazard. They may be able to identify the owner and do something. Or, if you've got one of those "call for action" type local TV news people, call them. It's hard to imagine that the house "smells like death" at this point, but something is causing the flies.

Probably a natural death and the body decomposed until someone called the coroner; at this point they should be contacting next of kin to make arrangements to pick up personal belongings. Next, the property owner will be contacted. You should call the health district if you think there is a health hazard.

These kind of things only happen in Las Vegas - no where else.

are these real questions $200,000 in an grave marked unknown next to a grave marked arch stanton?

I mean really?

do you have a right to know what is going on... why would you.
shouldn't we be informed if it's something dangerous... um, not really.
is this a health hazard because the house is hyperbole "covered in flies"... oh please.
when are they going to clean it up... how the heck would anyone around here know.
