I just retired from teaching 2 months ago and have every intention of moving to Vegas ASAP. I'm 60 yrs old no family, live south of Dallas and figured that Vegas is where I need to be because retirement can be lonely and boring. Been to Vegas many times and I'm an avid sports bettor and plan to spend most of the time in the sports books. I've been betting on sports for the last 35+ years and never claimed bankruptcy and been able to pay all my bills. the problem that I'm having is finding decent housing. I am currently living in a 2300 sq ft house that I bought for $145,000 and looking at homes in Vegas in a good neighborhood. I have head how cheap housing in Vegas is but wherever I look houses are a lot expensive for less sq ft. In Nov. I plan to come out here looking for housing. Anyone with suggestions

You are wrong. First, my opened packages of saltine crackers stay fresh and crisp for months on end. Secondly, you can sun bath in Las Vegas year round and soak up those UVB rays. Thirdly, there are a lot of hot babes walking around. #4 would be a central location to travel, both car and airplane. I like the airport here. #5 NO STATE INCOME TAX #6 Plenty of new slot machines to try one's luck. #7 NO MOSQUITOES #8 A good climate for gardening #9 No need to own a snow shovel and #10 reasonably good air quality.

Raiderman...Interesting NY is averaging $2.75 a gallon, Boston $2.68, Providence RI $2.69, Washington DC $2.82.....National average is $2.91. Las Vegas average is $3.27.

Las Vegas is not a city and not for everyone. Las Vegas for the population lacks a lot of things cities with similar population have. Las Vegas is a suburb built around a bunch of casinos. You have strip malls, neighborhoods that you can't tell apart from any other neighborhood in Las Vegas with few exceptions. There is a lack of community feel probably because most people who live here weren't born here. There is a lack of entertainment outside of the casinos. There is a lack of good or even okay public schools.

And of course the elephant in the room...water. I wish anyone luck buying a house with a 30 year mortgage in the current environmental situation Las Vegas is in.

You are wrong about the water situation. It's not the elephant in the room, it's a little cricket that makes some noise once in awhile. Vegas gets its water BEHIND Hoover Dam, the rest get theirs AFTER Hoover Dam.

Most cities in America do that, even when they do have sales tax.

I've never paid that back home. Nor has anyone else I know. They even make you pay it if you're renting here.

What exactly is bashing about these posts? Las Vegas is one of the most considered places for relocation in the country and visitors to this forum deserve a true full perspective on it. Others post plenty of positives about it, some negative just balances it out. The truth is always somewhere in the middle, but few people seem to figure that out in a posting forum.

In any case most people make too many generalizations, positive and negative posters both. Nothing is as great or as horrible as it seems in this town.

As do many other cities. Just because you've never had to pay it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

Look behind that Hoover Dam and realize the reality of the situation. Calling it "a little cricket" is not taking a very serious situation seriously. The drought is bad, ground water is quickly drying up and the reality of the situation is serious. If you want to buy a house with a 30 year mortgage and believe it will be the same Las Vegas in 30 years good luck to you. Not only is the water situation bad but the gaming market is currently changing dramatically.
