Is this district thriving, and living up to its' concept? It was my belief, this area would provide "alternative" entertainment consisting of up-and-coming, cutting edge entertainment, geared to both locals and the younger visitors that would never spend a dime on Cirque du Soleil, etc. Haven't really heard much, but the concept seems solid, as both loacls and the ever increasing number of young business-types could theoretically prove to be a huge market if executed properly.

couldn't agree more and it's spilling up into FSE....The four queens now has a night club situated within the Hotel that [from what I've been told] rivals the house of blues....or at least will in the very near future.

The area from LVB so to 7th has been changed enormously and has an OUTSTANDING Mexican restaurant and they have several starup bars etc there....it will take time but it has a chance

A nightclub un the Four Queens? Haven't heard. How's that nightclub across from the GN on Casino Center doing? They are bringing in decent acts. In my opinion, there is a huge market willing to spend money on a venue such as this.

I checked their site--they have a venue in LA, which seems to be doing well, and perhaps a little better acts. I may be naive, but until I see marketing as prevalent as Cirque du Soleil, etc, I don't think they'll reach their potential market. Whether or not they know it, there is a huge untapped market of young convention visitors.

It will be a slow process I think. They have to attract people to an area that was not the greatest for years. They are cleaning it up though, and that will allow the people with money to feel safe to bring in money makers. There is still a lot of work ahead but I think progress is being made.

It's been my experience that a large number of cutting-edge type venues have, and are located in areas far worse than downtown LV. The blend of monetary gain and cultural/artistic worth often mean locating in a less than desirable spot. Still, marketing is key, to at least make the masses aware.

Here's the city's website, which is pretty informative and explains what they've done besides the new streetscape and signs. Prospective tenants receive huge discounts on their liquor license providing they forego video poker and offer some form of entertainment.

All of my friends love hitting the bars down there, since they are all within walking distance from eachother and something different is always going on. The Griffin is our favorite, but the other places all have their charms as well. Beauty Bar has an outdoor area that is a fantastic place to see bands when the weather is nice. The Bunkhouse has the most nights of live music of any spot in the area (except for maybe Jillian's), and the Downtown Cocktail Room has the most cutting edge and urban feel of all these places.

There's also a few bars, a great restaurant (Triple George) and a theatre on 3rd Street, part of the ever-delayed Lady Luck renovation.

It will take time, but this is exactly what downtown needs. It's the antithesis of the Fremont Street Experience and so they make a great combo. I'm sure guinnessjim will add his 2 cents as well. I can't say enough good things. Everyone should visit and see for themselves. But then it wouldn't be our little secret tho!
