The CCSD Magnet lottery.
Our youngest daughter just got accepted to the magnet program. We are two for two now.

It's the best gamble in town.

My son got in as well. We took the tour several month ago, and he really wanted to go. We got the letter a few days ago. He's excited and we're happy.

Congrats! My oldest is at Walter Bracken since 1st grade. She's in 4th right now. Only 1 more year left, then we roll the dice again! Actually, we have already done some Magnet Middle tours and she's keen on Thurman White, which is closest to home, but I'd prefer her to shoot for Hyde Park. The only thing I found enticing about White (which is very nice, btw but not where I was trying to steer her.) is the 10-minute drive! All the other schools are clear across town. She already does a 45-1hr bus ride right now. That on top of the VERY early start times has us also considering Homeschooling, which I am keen to do.

Congrats. The magnet schools in the valley are 10x better than the non magnet schools. They also work with a bigger budget and smaller class rooms. Can't beat that.

My youngest brat went to Northwest Tech. It was a great experience.

Me too, but on the other end. I just got a job offer to teach at a technical high school.

Just making sure I got this right... If you are zoned for a good school, you don't really have to sign up for the magnet program, right? Except maybe for high school where the better schools are magnet schools?

Magnet schools are better than the "good" schools.
