I am not sure I understand the CCSD's website. It seems the elementary schools are all K-5. Then I noticed some have pre-k, but not really advertised as such. Are these special programs and/or magnet programs and or lottery based? Thanks

Depends on your location. Some of the kindergartens actually charge you.

Not anymore. They have been funded. It's about time. To late for me those. I forked over $375 for full day K. I consider it money well spent.

Any school that offers pre-k is going to be in a fairly poor area. They only offer it for their most at risk kids that are zoned for the school. If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion...If you choose to pay for pre-k at a private school, PLEASE choose a Montessori environment!

That's good news. I know a few people who had to pay just so they could go to work.

I used to pony up about $ 500-600 per month for kindergarten and before - after school care for my kid. That was over twenty years ago. It was more than half my monthly paycheck. There was also no earned income tax credit back then. It sucked big time.

When he was really little, the husband and I worked opposite shifts because we didn't want anyone taking care of him when he was too young to tell us what was going on during his day. Paranoid maybe, but whatever.

Glad they are offering pre-k now. I'll pony up a few cents at the gas pump for it.

Careful with that. I know someone they hired. Trust me, it was based on lowest wages.

Thanks for all of the replies!
The neighborhood we are moving to is called Skye Canyon. Near Providence. Ideally looking for something playbased. Waldorf works too. Montessorri ok. Non-religious too. Thanks
