There is an animal cruelty issue with R.C. Farms (pig farm) in North Las Vegas. Every animal should be raised in a way that it doesn't suffer

Is this just another pork-barrel initiative?

sorry, mom. I didn't mean to imply that animal cruelty was funny, but rather, was just playing with the pig/pork word connection.

Before I sign ANY petition re: animal cruelty and RC farms. I need to know more about their alleged cruelty.

In case no one noticed......farm animals frequently do NOT sleep in luxery hotels or apartments nor do they receive a spa treatment. Get real lady.

Yup - Me too. The problem with this is that we are off into hard core animal husbandry. I don't know that the stardards are for a feeder lot...which is what this sounds like.

If it is a problem should not the complaint go into the agricultural regulator bodies? There is a Nevada Agriculture Dept.

Note also that the farm is in the county not NLV.

I haven't researched it much, but I'm sure that the fact that people living in the suburban housing tracts built all around the farm feel it is in their best interest to shut them down.

Is it possible that this cruelty accusation is a thinly veiled attempt by neighbors to get RC Farms and their malodorous eminations out of North Las Vegas? It would certainly benefit developers and homeowners in the area.

Something seems fishy about this one.

I have to agree with what Chest said about this. I've seen this area boom with housing tracts all around the pig farm in the last few years, so I'm skeptical about the true intentions of the petition. The farm has been there for a very long time, much longer than any of the multiple housing tract's residents have. I remember reading about efforts to get rid of the farm in the past, so this appears to be just another tactic to do the same. I wouldn't be so skeptical if the farm didn't have such a long history there.

The smell that come's from the farm and that blankets the area around it always made me wonder about the people who moved to the area to begin with. I wonder (no offense Olecapt) what builders and realtors tell potential buyers who noticed the smell while house shopping. I can't imagine how hard it is to sell a home in that area now with the current housing climate and that smell. In any case, the farm was there first, and therefore I think it deserves to stay.
