If, and when, self-driving cars appear on the roads, cars that will drive the exact speed limit, then what will the police do to generate revenue?

Chicago hauled in $1 Billion in traffic fine revenue last year, and someone asked the Police Chief what will happen if this scenario develops, self-driving cars, and he jokingly (actually no joke at all!) said they'd have to turn to bicyclists and pedestrians for revenue.

My Mexican roommate got ticketed, in downtown Las Vegas, a year ago, for? Believe this one! His bicycle tire was too far over the white line at the intersection. My take on this: Brown Bating!

What EA needs right now is some compassion, not some salt rubbed into his wounds!

What EA needs is to stop breaking the law. Then when he does break the law and gets caught doing so, he needs to suck it up and take his punishment like a man instead of whining about how nobody else got punished.

Daddy nailed it here:

EA, is your typical Bernie loving snowflake. Refuses to take responsibility for his own actions but instead places blame for his wrong doings on others. People like that don't get my compassion nor should they get anyone elses. They deserve a kick in the arse.

People like EA are what society ends up with after 30 years of "Everyone gets a trophy" attitude.

So much for your half-assed theory.

Also, police are so helpful...

Praise jesus for these brave officers out there stopping real crime like keeping up with traffic.
Think of all those children saved from that extra 5mph. What saviors.

In case you missed the sarcasm, I got pulled over on my way to work keeping up with the car in front of me, behind me, and beside me. 40 in a 35. F the police.
Just curious, so when you got pulled over did you rant to the officer like you rant here ? Did you tell him how he should be doing his job ? Traveling with the flow of traffic, if exceeding the posted speed limit is a violation...If the guy was on a bike, he was doing exactly what he is job description entails...traffic ! If it was posted at 35....there was a reason....

This reminds me of one of my kids that feels slightly "entitled"..she got a ticket...very similar circumstances...then saying or demanding that I "do something"...after much thought and consideration I did...I offered her a ride to traffic court...get over it !

Argue with Metro? Hell no, they shoot people left and right.

It's not about being entitled, it's about cops being useless extortionists. You guys are complaining about crime rising and calling for more cops. We don't need more cops. We need cops to stop actual criminals. Hiding behind signs to catch dastardly "speeders" is a waste of resources.
Shouldn't even be allowed to give tickets for 5mph over. Too much air in a couple tires and a slightly out of calibration radar can can easily give a false reading.

Had I been weaving in and out of traffic doing 60+. Fine, give me a ticket. (I've gotten that ticket)

Driving with traffic 5mph over? F that. Only reason I got pulled is my car is lowered.

Personally, I find some of the speed limits down here in Anthem & Seven Hills area to be unreasonably slow. Imagine a road that is 2 lanes each direction with a median. No cross streets. Very infrequently there will be a side street on one side of the street Straight as an arrow. The posted limit is 35, when IMHO 45 is certainly warranted.

I grant you...5 over is a little discretionary...I wouldn't sweat the consequences too heavily...but yea...it's a hassle.....remember these words..."margin of error"...!

The road in front of my house is 25mph. It's wide and open. There's absolutely no reason for it to be 25.
I'll give you 20 bucks if you can sit along side the road with a radar gun for 1 hour and find 1 single car (That you haven't arranged) going anywhere near 25mph. I've been going 45 and had people passing me. If I had to guess, I'd say most people do 50-55 down that road. I've been here 2 years. There's been one single accident and it was someone pulling out of the subdivision into the side of a car that had the right of way.

Please explain to me how a cop sitting on my road, hiding, handing out tickets would in any way benefit anyone? You can't.
It's a waste of resources. It's a waste of our time. It's a waste of a judge's time. It takes money out of the economy and puts a strain on people's wallets.

Many of the posted limits are the result of previous problems, or you have an elected official that wants his or her neighborhood tightly controlled....The other problem is that 45 to some is 55...I dare believe each and every one of us has busted a speed limit once or twice in their life...if you strongly feel that particular area is over regulated ....there is a method to address !

EA, I think it's a conspiracy...have you checked your rear bumper to be sure someone didn't stick a "hit me" sign on it....try to keep this in mind...the cop that patrols that area had absolutely no say in what that posted limit is or was...I got a ticket once, in Utah, for going 3 over...what's that old saying...some days yer the bug...and some days you are the windshield !
