Many strip hotels already advertise rooms at $39 a night to suck people in. It's definitely a joke when that $39 room becomes double that (or more) once all fees are included. I'm sure more than once people have been confused as to why their $39 room is so expensive!

I could potentially see that if you were just walking down the street and just walked into a hotel, but if you're making a purchase on a website, I hardly think someone wouldn't notice as they enter in their credit card information to make payment

Don't know if they still do this, but they used to wait to hit people with the resort fee until check-in or out. They've probably stopped doing that though, because that went over like a lead balloon.

As far as I know, they still do, especially if you book on an Orbitz type website. Orbitz (or similar) takes the actual room fee, the rest is collected by the hotel either when you arrive or upon checkout.

It isn't about checking out; it is about the sort order displayed when people search & sort on price:

No, you're exactly right. I think some of you guys don't get it haha you could easily miss that online. You are NEVER required to pay a resort fee online when you book a hotel. They MAY allow you to pay, I've seen that, but it's not the case most of the time.

I booked two nights at The Stratosphere just a few months ago, went there a few weeks ago, and yes it was like $35/night, but the resort fees were due upon arrival and it was almost $60 for two nights. I already knew that, though, it did mention it online, it just didn't require me to pay. Maybe some people don't read the fine print, though.

Still whatever, I mean $60/night as it turned out to be was ridiculously cheap. We had spent the first 5 days at the other end of the Strip, so it was fun being at the Stratosphere for two days and we took full advantage by making most of our activities about the hotel, like dinner at The Top of the World restaurant (lobster was amazing, and I had to eat a bottom-feeding ocean dweller while sitting atop the world, too ironic to resist), went to The Greatest Rock Show Tribute, went to two comedy shows back to back, all without leaving the hotel.

The room deals are still amazing and I'm glad they hit tourists with nice fees and taxes. That's exactly what they should be doing. As someone who plans to move to Vegas one day, make the tourists pay for the city's taxes. It's the best system on earth and keeps the city the ideal place to live. Locals pay far fewer taxes, and make the tourists pay. They're having fun, they are on vacation, they don't care.

Yeah, I get it. Now if you click the reserve button, it will specifically state underneath the price what the resort fee is. Hard to imagine anyone not seeing that.

I booked the Rio for December and the resort fees were $34/night, the cost of the hotel itself was $65/night, so $100/night. I usually stay off the strip at Main Street Station which used to be around $70-75/night all inclusive but now they have jacked up the rates to $100/night.

The Rio has free parking so hopefully they will not change that before I arrive. I will park at the Wynn and walk around using that as a base... hopefully everyone is not having the same idea LMAO!

F the casinos that charge for parking, I refuse to pay for parking if I am going to the casinos as a potential customer. That is like Target charging their customers to park while shopping, ridiculous! The Greed has reached epic levels.

Um - Target does charge for parking in some locations. The store in White Plains, NY has a paid parking garage.

Having shopped it likely that shopping center, it's not Target that's charging for parking, but the owner of the shopping center. Functionally, it doesn't matter to the customer. But if you want to assign blame, assign it to the correct party. Int there defense, it cause vastly more to build a multilevel garage than to pave a piece of flat land for a parking lot, and, for the shopping center to be viable, they need to do it.
