Places like Las Vegas where much of the economy is based on cheap gasoline, disposable income and low Airfares, I suspect is really going to suffer as the economy continues its free fall and inflation rages. Has anyone seen a down turn in the casino and entertainment economy since the first of the year?

I live in Florida, a state that depends on "disposable income" and amazingly enough this was one of the best years that we have had in about 10 years.

actually no......our business is up for the year....not as much up as it has been in previous years but UP just the same.

People are getting panicked because "The MGM is laying off"...if you look back, you'll see that, when MGM did all there buying of everything that moved on the strip, they did NOT do a big layoff even tho MANY of the jobs were 'non-essential'.....NOW they have an excuse for laying off that doesn't make them look bad.

Traditionally, in Las Vegas, when the national economy has been down [remember Richard Nixon] Las Vegas has boomed....gas was rationed and people could not get here. So they flew, or walked, or crawled or even took a boat.....BUT they got here, they gambled, they lost, they left happy.

And what most people don't realize is that those MGM layoffs were supposed to happen last year..it's been "in the works" for quite some time now (from a friend who is in upper management of MGM/Mirage)

Now was as good a time as any to thin out the "top heavy" management of this mega employer. I'm willing to believe that most of the folks laid off..were more recent hires.

That's the way it always works anyways.
