Hey everybody, I've been lurking on this site for a while now, so I thought I would register and post.

My wife and myself are almost 30, and have lived in South Bend Indiana our entire lives. We have no children, and visit Las Vegas twice a year.

We don't gamble, just love the city and all that there is to do. Besides, the warm weather would be a nice change of pace.

We would like to move there in about a year. I have been in retail for over 11 years, the last 8 of which with the same local company. I also have a part time job at a local restaurant, where I am the beer specialist. I am in charge of ordering the vast arrays of craft beer, training the staff and creating the prices. My wife works for a vet, and would like to do that in Las Vegas.

We don't want the life of luxury, just a change of scenery, and we feel that if can basically live the life we have in Indiana in Las Vegas, we will both be much happier.

Any suggestions on job and apartment availabilty for either of us? Our credit isnt great (i had a failed small buisness). We just would like a 1 br apartment, in an ok area. We have realistic expectations, Im just tired of dreaming about it, and would like to make it a reality.

Thanks to all,
Jeremy

While I normally dont have much enthusiasm on advice with the bad job market here I will say that I would be confident you will find many opportunities in the hospitality field starting with your bartending.

I know there is always a demand for medical Im not too sure for Vets. Im guessing she will find something easy in her field.

Good luck....

DS41 has it about right. We are heavy vet users...lots of work though pay is not great. You will likely do very well with the beer thing.

You will have no problem with a house unless you have three dogs and two cats. Then all bets are off.

You might want to take a look at...

Welcome to Las Vegas

You are not really the target but still it may help...

And remember to call olecapt when time comes to buy the house.

Default Thanks guys.

I appreciate the feedback. I realize all of these questions have been asked before, but you have helped ease some of my fears.

I hope to see you all in about a year!!

As a bartender, you'll make a good salary out here, and you should be able to afford an apartment in a safe/fun area.

suggest you get something really cheap till you both have jobs. Maybe even secure the jobs before moving.
