For the pet friendly motels... La Quinta is pet friendly.

Greetings. I'm using City-Data for research, and in going through the "neighborhoods" of Las Vegas I noticed A Neighborhood called South Las Vegas with these figures:
Area: 316.985 square miles

Population: 1,025,514

The map looks like it covers most of Las Vegas and the population figures are larger than for the city itself. I'm sure there's an error here, but is there really a South Las Vegas neighborhood, and if there is, what are the boundaries for it? Thanks very much

Mike Swanson

Sheryl, I couldn't find any mention of where you would be driving from but like Airics, I made the trip from Ohio with two big dogs. I'm a woman alone and it took 4 days. It's doable but sounds much worse before you begin. I would think a cat would be a piece of cake. The problem I had with dogs is they both weigh 85 lbs. and I'm small and when we would stop at rest stops, they would panic with the traffic noise. I finally learned to get off the eway and find remote country roads. Even at that, the most precious one went into a panic and broke his heavy leash at a busy rest stop. I had to hit a Lowe's in St. Louis and finish the trip with him on a clothesline leash.

I had booked ahead pet friendly motels and found myself in some real dumps. I wish I had known of the La Quinta chain ahead of time and cannot remember the names of some of them I had to stay in.

As far as your decision, I did not hear you mention some other things I would be considering. Costs of yearly property taxes would be one thing, utilties for that property in that area and the crime statistics. Also, maintainence costs. I would think an older house might be a bit of a money pit but then again, a newer condo not built well might turn out to be expensive too. Next look at the costs of living in that state. California has a state income tax I believe, we do not. We both have high insurance premiums. I find my utility rates to be lower than my friends who live in Ca. We have many lost leader or low cost entertainment and eatting venues, you know Ca. certainly doesn't.

Also a thing to consider is that Prop 13 means your property tax in Cali won't go up. In Nevada it will. Of course, some are desperately trying to repeal prop 13.

There's still more poop coming out of DC and Carson City then all those cows ...

ummm its capped at 3% for owner occupied or 8% for non owner occupied.... so if your tax was 3000. in 2006... dropped to 1500 in 07... and it was owner occupied and the values skyrocketed... the highest it could be was 1545 in 08, 1592 in 09, etc etc....
