Anyone catch the story in the newspaper today, the 19YO man accused of beating and raping a 65YO hotel maid at Bally's?

Now I find this all a bit confusing! Anyone else?

I just saw the news story on this, and they had her age as 55. Apparently there are some really sick young guys like that, that think it's fine to beat and rape older women. Perhaps a problem with his Mother or he just hate's women in general. I am glad they caught him. He seemed really cocky on the surveillance camera.

Out walking this evening and while crossing Deer Springs on the way home, a car stopped for us, and one behind it. As I was making my way across, the car behind the first one decided to go to the other lane, right where I was at the time, almost hitting me! I stuck my hand out for them to stop, but really, would that do any good? They hit the brakes and I hurried to the other side.
It reminded me of the little girls hit on Camino al dorado when one car stopped and the older lady hit the little girls! Come on people, if one car is stopped, you also need to stop too! They aren't just stopped at a crosswalk or the middle of the road for nothing. And I was in a crosswalk.

I am very cautious when out walking anytime day or night. I always make sure no cars are coming before I cross in a marked crosswalk. Plus if cars are coming, I like to wait for them to go first, then I go. Some slow down and stop, but it's not always safe if only one stops.

Everyone seems like they're in such a hurry to get wherever they're going in this city, I don't think it would matter even if they spotted their mother's in a crosswalk! Splat!

Crosswalks, particularly at night, are constant source of stresss for me, while driving around. Like someone crossing wearing black clothes, not being able to see them.

Yes, I did, and I feel quite disgusted by it. Hopefully, they throw the book at him.

Throwing the book at anyone, translated: Roughly $50k in prison costs every year, court costs, the cost of appeals, and this state can ill afford to send anyone to prison!

The biggest waste of a state's resources you can imagine! Sadly, only additional job security for the prison personnel!

And, having read that depressing article on homelessness in Las Vegas in the Sunday paper, we need to channel some $$ in that direction and how many other directions where that $$ spent would be more beneficial to everyone!

The sadness of reading anyone getting arrested today for a crime, is that incident is going to deprive much-needier beneficiaries of that $$/help.

How easy to say "throw the book at him", deluding yourself into thinking it's not going to come out of your pocketbook! It will, it will!

Yea, I'm extremely cautious about any drivers here. I'd say the most dangerous thing you can do is cross at an intersection. If I have to cross a street on foot it is far away from any possibility of some guy taking a left turn through a red light to run me over.

What's really shocking is not that someone might go for that sort of thing...but the fact that can find older women participants to stage it!
