thanks to all of you for the great breakfast ideas in my other thread......now for dinner!.....

I like older "historic" places....would like to know if Binion's steak place downtown is still pretty darn good or has maybe had some trouble lately and may not be as good as it once was...I don't know the current vibe of the place......

otherwise, is there a non-chain, locally-owned steak place in town that would be the choice for a special occasion without just being an "impress your friends" joint....I'd like it to be a much nicer spot than Outback, but not ridiculously overpriced....maybe a clubby, classy, established, stable feel with no pretentious fuss.....

thanks very much!

Ellis Island will definitely give you the 50's Vegas vibe. Ask for the steak special ($5.99, I believe). It's not on the menu. One of the best food deals in LV.

Ellis Island is the ghetto-est spot in town. Your steak will come with a side of meth, or salmonella. And it is not a steakhouse, its just the cheapest, crappiest casino in town with a little diner, a small bar and a few (always empty) table games. I went there for karaoke(so fun btw) once; we went to sit down at a table, found it had a mess on it, and after 10 mins or so when no one came by, we asked the bartender if someone could get the empty glasses, plates, and cigarette butts off the table and she said, and I sh#t you not "Just put them in there" pointing to a dirty bus tub on the floor near the kitchen door. I just laughed, it was so ridiculous...

Anyways, I reccomend McDonald's over Ellis Island any day

While I agree that the area around Ellis Island is not the best, our steak dinner contained neither meth, nor salmonella. And the table that we were seated at was clean. We did not hang out in the lounge, so can't speak to conditions there.

Just read the Golden Steer menu. Still in shock. Steak dinner for 2, with sides, you have to be talking about $135!!!!!

I've had at least 10 of my friends tell me they absolutely love the steak special at Ellis Island. I'm not doubting this poster's bad experience, and I haven't tried it myself, but the OP should know that some people consider this a good place with good value.
