I posted a thread asking people to tell me about Las Vegas along with doing my own research, and what I have found makes a great case for me to move out there from Orlando.

My next question is about jobs in Las Vegas. From what I've gathered the unemployment rate is in space (13.5% if I'm correct) But from what I've found a majority of jobs lost in Vegas were in construction due to the housing collapse (Vegas was the hardest hit right?) Also casinos suffered job losses because of a tourism slow down right?

I have no interest in the construction industry, i may take a job in the gaming industry if I think I may like it but I'm not sure. I hear Valets at the casinos make a killing in tips

But my experience that I have acquired isretail, specifically grocery stores. I'll take any job I can find If I do decide to move to Vegas but I need to know about the pay of jobs out there. I'm 20 btw

according to Salary.com's cost of living wizard It states that if I make $17,000 in Orlando I will make $18650.

Salary.com's Cost of Living Wizard Tool

Can any Vegas residents tell me if this increase may be accurate? I earn $9 an hour at Publix, part time (I work about 35 hours a week though) I would like to have a full time retail job if I decide to relocate. Would I really make more money, would it be the same or would it be less?

I've asked the same sort of question and was told not to move cause even people with college degrees can't find a minimum job.

1. jobs pay about the same, but are very hard to find... 2. the above poster previously asked about felonies and work in vegas... If you have felonies or misdemeanors it will be very very difficult to land ANY job in vegas

Retail is slow also. Albertsons just cut another 29 jobs valleywide last month. Getting fulltime work at a resort is a tough proposition these days. You won’t work Valet until who you know and who to payoff for the job.

exactly, imo becoming a valet at a major resort is like hitting the lottery... but they aren't making anything close to what they did 3yrs ago..

I also wanted to note that if I do decide to relocate to Vegas it will not be until Sept/Oct 2010 if at all. I'm taking a trip to Vegas in April to see the city for myself and if it really is for me

The economy should at the very least begin to recover by then (I don't expect overnight prosperity) but I do believe the economy is getting better but slowly. Who knows just 9 or 10 months could be a big difference right?

Vegas' winter weather is quite similar to Florida though we are a bit warmer. Orlando is in the low 70s during the day and the high 40s at night. Vegas is in the 50s during that day and 30s at night right?. Between October and April it almost never rains here

Ok but back to jobs. If I do decide to move to Vegas how can I go about applying for jobs and setting up interviews if I live 2500 miles away?

I'll work pretty much any retail store except Wal-Marts, sorry but I hate that place with a burning passion

We are on a very long road to recovery. Unless your moving here with a skill set thats needed here in Vegas then I would not waste my time. Improving your skill set would be better use of your time than relocation.
