One thing I really like about Smiths is that they have La Brea Bakery bread. The only grocery stores that have good bread in Silicon Valley are not open 24 hrs. At Safeway I get to pay $4 for a loaf of bread that is nowhere as good, or any bigger than the La Brea Bakery baguette I can get for $1.50 at Smiths. They also have a better selection of prepared food than Albertsons, though it can't compare to Whole Foods.

all the food I've bought has been fresh and lasts much longer than the dates on it. I may have gotten one small french loaf of bread once, the one serving one that actually turned moldy before I got to it. I overbought that time and couldn't use it up.
Think what you like, I know that store well as I shop there weekly. Maybe the store you went to had a problem, since there are many locations all over the valley. To each their own for sure.
Pink, Pink, Pink. You should be on the track team with those broad jumps.

I don't remember, but I think it was different things. I don't wish FnE any bad luck, I just don't like their food or their stores. So far we've been to two or three different ones.

Does Smith's have Internet ordering and door-to-door delivery service? Wy wife will be alone for two weeks and she doesn't drive, so I thought that would be a good option if she needs a few items before I return.

Here in D.C. we used Giant Food's Peapod Service when I was home for a few months recovering from surgery.

I know that Safeway had its own service too for awhile, but I think that they discontinued it, so I don't know whether VONS has such service.

Any suggestions?

I know Albertsons delivers. I think Vons still does too. Not sure about Smiths. But I can find out.

I checked and Smiths does not offer delivery service at this time. But if you live in Colorado, they do.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I'm moving to Vegas to get away from the snow (among other things). I am damn sure not moving to an area where it can snow in September, as it did once when i was watching the Broncos on MNF.

You couldn't pay me enough to endure living in CO! (Now keep in mind, that I am originally from Miami, so anything below 60 is cold, lol.)

I like Smiths but I don’t have one close by. I use Albertsons to get meats and produce and bread and milk. Target and Wal-Mart are good for frozen and can goods and cleaning supplies. Lee's to keep my scotch and beer and wine stocked up.

I love Lee's. We don't have anything like that here. You could fit four of our liquor stores in one Lee's.

Hi Davie,
Smith's is owned and operated by Kroger out of Cincinnati, OH. I was born and raised in OH and knew lots of people over the years who worked for Kroger. As far as I know, they treated their employees fairly well and had competitive pay. I have no idea how that may have changed with the turn in the economy. You may want to ask about working for Kroger on one of the Ohio boards.

In my opinion, the Kroger brand products are very good. I really love their peanut butter and orange juice. Have also had good luck with most of their canned products and frozen vegetables. Having lived in Florida, I had no Kroger for years, so I about fell to my knees in gratitude upon seeing the Kroger label on my first trip to Smith's when I moved here. If only they would carry canned or frozen Skyline chili.....

Best of luck on your future move!

I'll hop over to Ohio and see what I find. I know in Georgia, The Carolinas and Tennessee (where Publix is expanding to) people SWEAR by Kroger that is the greatest thing to ever happen since sliced bread

Thanks for wishing me luck. I really hope I hear back from Smith's. The DM told me they were actually laying off people but would see if any were hiring
