Most of the replies are about shopping at Smith's, but I can tell about working there, since you're an applicant. I was a vendor to all the valley supermarkets and can honestly say Smith's employees, especially those that have been there long, are not nearlyas happy as those from Albertsons or Fresh&Easy.
When you're working with them, they are a lot more condescending to each other & just plain grumpy to the point where it's weird, to an outside observer..I'm sure they did'nt start at Smith's with those attitudes. The store GM's are often irrational and not professional- just doing CYA., and I got the feeling most employees were just grinding it out to get there union benefits.
When I dealt with the Albertsons or Fresh&Easy workers, it was like a breath of fresh air . Employees were a lot happier and seemed more knowledgable. I met some that crossed over from Smith's, and they agreed with my observations..and the stores were usually cleaner, a lot of the Smith's stores are just plain beat..I've seen fly's in the Service Deli cases and back in produce . I've spoken to Kroger reps who were even dismayed at some Smith's operations, but could'nt do anything about it.
I don't mean any offence to any Smith's workers. But, to an applicant, check the other stores.

I will be sure to check out other stores. I know what Albertson's stores are like as they used to be a very big name in Florida until this year when they closed all but 1 store in the entire state!

I have heard good things about Fresh and Easy as well. Thanks G5 I'm going to give you rep for that

I know an Albertsons manager or two, and I believe their employees are generally happy in their jobs.

We shop for different things at different stores...Costco, Whole Paycheck, Trader Joes...even Walmart sometimes. We used to shop mainly at Von's since it used to be two blocks away, but haven't been to one in a long time now. They're all the same, except Fresh and Easy is a joke ...it's British, and you can tell ...very plain, boring, Euro style, yucky food. If only they were French instead of British.
I'm married to a snob who doesn't believe she has to associate with Walmart or Smith's shoppers. I see nothing wrong with Smith's shoppers. She's still thinking about the one we used to go to now and then on Rancho. She doesn't even like the NLV Costco. Says the clientèle at the Summerlin Costco is higher class...except when we're there, of course.
Is your wife's name Hyacinth Bucket?

My daughter and son-in-law both work at Smith's. They have been there for some time and have both been promoted. It's a great store and has been a great employer for them. They are relatively young (22 and 20) but Smith's has allowed them to buy their first house. Great company.
