Never actually flew into LAS though I did ride the jump seat a couple of times..which does give the full visual. Rode the jump seat into LAX a couple of times as well. Which was an even more striking approach.

LAS was more exotic as I regularly flew myself in and out of Long Beach.

DId an hour many years ago in the right seat of a United 747 flying from Tokyo to Honolulu...and as the sun rose. Kind of the ultimate flying experience. Interestingly enough the guy in the left seat was not an airline employee either. I doubt that sort of thing can happen in the existing climate.

I am not a great fan of static simulators. For some reason or the other my technique goes to hell as soon as I sit down in one. Things I could do reasonably well under a hood become very difficult in a simulator.

I only got half way through IFR when my heart became an issue and I decided on boats rather than airplanes.

I don't regret that...but it was great fun working out of the "airports" of western NY. It is amazing what you can do with 1200 feet of grass.

When we stayed at Lake Las Vegas this past winter, one of our favorite activities was sitting on the south-facing patio and just watch the planes go by. I was thinking of the passengers and the excitement us non-Las Vegans feel when we fly over Hoover Dam and start to see "civilization" in Henderson, knowing we're almost there!!!

Was hoping to get a picture of Air Force One going by when Obama came, but it was dark by the time he got there.

At one time I lived right on one of the glide paths for Kansas City International.....after a while you DO get used to the noise. But we weren't as close there as Galleria is to McCarran. I sat in the car watching for about ten minutes in the Sunset Station parking lot while Mr. Dokie was in the sports book and wow - they ARE pretty low there!!

I flew out of LAS this morning bound for SJC and we took off on 1R (I'm assuming it was R). We began a climbing right turn almost immediately, passing over the Thomas & Mack center, and eventually performed a 240 degree turn, with us passing back by the airport from east to west at about 12k feet (still climbing), almost directly over I-215.

You have to make that immediate turn on climb out from 01R (and landing on 19R) due to the proximity of Nellis, and their airspace.

Nice simpit Chris. Let me know if you ever need an F/O
