Macungie is a small borough, with a small downtown area, not nearly as big as Emmaus. But it is safe, clean, and charming.

As Paco mentioned, the townships surround Macungie, and are almost all subdivisions and businesses, with no real downtown.

It really just depends on what you like. Town centers vs subdivisions
Is all of Macungie in the Parkland School district? I read a lot of nice things about Macungie. Thank you for the input!

I think most of Macungie is in East Penn School District. This link shows you Parkland's school district boundaries - District Map There are other ones out there but the best is a C-D competitor site so I cannot link it. If you do a google for Lehigh County School district map, you may find it.

Lower Macungie Township and Macungie borough are in East Penn SD. Upper Macungie Township is in Parkland SD.

Thank you for the clarification PacoMartin. I can never keep that straight. And just in case I've missed it, is there a town in Upper Macungie? I know Fogelsville is there, but is that sort of like Orefield, more of a junction of two roads and a post office?

I guess what I'm asking if there is any REAL town, the kind with a main street and stores, in Parkland School district. As far as I know, there isn't and the OP specifically wanted a small town.

Like the charter school in Emmaus but there is a long waiting list.

we are going to rent first and then buy once we sort where we want to live. I am from NEPAL but haven't lived in Pa since 1996. I am so happy to be moving back to family and friends.

Not that I know of. I wasn't suggesting Upper Macungie, I was just clarifying the name and the associated school district. Personally, I recommend Emmaus for renters. You have a greater choice of rentals, and a bigger walking district.

Fogelsville is kind of "town-ish" but it's not very walkable, and I still don't think they've cleared building the Weis Market there.

Is Egypt in Parkland S.D. or is that considered Whitehall-Coplay?

Egypt is Whitehall-Coplay School District. FYI, the school district boundaries are an option on Google Earth, which is a free software program.

I don't mean to diss' Egypt, it is probably the oldest town in Lehigh Valley. But at 2K people it seems little more than a bunch of churches, a pub and park to me. I think the OP wants at a minimum a neighborhood with a half a dozen places to eat, get a drink and a place to buy newspaper.

Yeah that's true I guess there isn't any of that in Parkland S.D. then. Hmmm...

I knew about Google Earth but I was being lazy
