Even though it's slow going at the moment, I'm not doing any worse selling my house myself than people I know who are currently using a realtor. I think the one thing that bugs me is the obsession over staging. Sure, you want your house to look nice, but no amount of potpourri or candles is going to make someone more inclined to buy your home, bottom line.
I hate candles and potpourri. What buyers want to see is the house. I showed one yesterday that had soooo much stuff in the house, the TV was on, the dryer was going, two cats were running around, we couldn't go in the garage because they had dogs in there, unfolded laundry was on the bed, and then we "Found" two more dogs in crates in the master bedroom. My client couldn't remember the color of the cabinets, what type of flooring it had, etc.......Those sellers need help!
Ouch! I know that would be the last thing I'd want to see as a potential buyer. I made sure to get rid of as much clutter as I could before I put my house up. If a person can't remember the flooring, that's not a good sign.
