Hey there so I recently have become fascinated by the city of Little Rock, due to the fact that it seems almost like a hidden treasure to me. Such a beautiful city, yet so underrated. Anyway, I was curious as to if anyone had any experience with Memphis and Little Rock and if they could provide me with some similarities/differences. I used to live in Memphis and I absolutely LOVED it there. I'm from the midwest originally and it was so polar opposite to where I am from, so many trees and historic old homes and buildings. Thanks in advance for any additional information! :]

Little Rock is similar to Memphis in culture, its just smaller and less touristy. You don't have Beale St and Graceland in Little Rock, but you do have similar historic neighborhood with hundred-foot tall oaks. You have Hillcrest Little Rock which is funky and liberal similar to Midtown Memphis. Little Rock is heavily influenced by African American Delta culture as is Memphis. Little Rock is smaller though so you aren't going to have quite the variety or quality of amenities as you will in Memphis, be it nightlife, dining, shopping, neighborhoods, etc. Little Rock is still a very livable city though and has a neat vibe for its size. Little Rock is also in the foothills of the Ouachita mountains so it has some natural beauty you won't find in Memphis.

Ahh that sounds ideal by my standards! I kind of jumped the gun recently and moved to the east coast from Omaha, NE. While I enjoy Baltimore and think it's an awesome city it's just too expensive. I'd also ideally be able to live in a city with a more mild winter and hotter summer because I have a higher heat tolerance. One great thing about Little Rock would be that it takes half the time to drive to Omaha (my hometown) as it does from Baltimore! I'd consider moving back to Omaha because of the cost of living but I HATE winter and I miss the natural beauty that the south has.

You also have Hot Springs nearby which has a gorgeous botanical garden, horse races, theme park and casino.

That's great! I'm amazed at how much Little Rock has to offer considering it's smaller than cities with similar aspects. Are there any walkable, inexpensive areas to live that you would recommend?

Hillcrest and the Heights are the young, trendy, walkable areas of Little Rock. The Quapaw Quarter is another historic neighborhood that is currently emerging. Hillcrest is surprisingly affordable being that it's historic and walkable.

Memphis is one of the worst cities in this country. It's the only city that I've been attemPted robbed at gunpoint. Baltimore has high crime too but it is 20 times more scenic with Annapolis ,the inner harbor, fells point. U just don't know what there is to like about Memphis.

Omaha is pretty bland but at least it's pretty nice and there are things to do.

Little rock is better than Memphis, although similar in some ways it is smaller. More nature. I don't know how to describe it, it's just kind of there. It's ok though, way better than Memphis. The only city worse than memPhis is detroit.

If you like ghettos, low cost of living, and rivers you should move to st Louis. Seriously. It's also got a more early 19th century urban feel to it.

Seriously, I lived in St Louis for 16 years and loved it. I was then transferred to Omaha and lived there for 7 years and hated it. But I am now back home in Arkansas and looking at a foot of snow!!! Go figure.

I hope so. Memphis at heart is an amazing city with unique culture but the crime problems are just too much to permit any real boom. Get the crime down and begin revitalizing the decay and the city will start to become very attractive.
