Seeking any and all input with regard to the Brookhaven SPCA and their methods. Has anyone had any personal experiences with them?

This happened yesterday:

http://tinyurl.com/RaidedYaphankRescue (broken link)

and I am wondering, what is the "real truth."

Exact excerpts taken directly from the article:

Patrick Young, a Central Islip criminal-defense attorney hired by Miller about one week ago, said Miller was in shock and said she specializes in elderly, ill dogs, many of which were too sick to be adopted.

"A lot of them are old, a lot of them are sick," Young said. "She takes care of them until they pass on." Miller has spent roughly $100,000 over the past six years to care for these animals, Young said.

John Packard, of Center Moriches, said he and his wife, Stefi, were among at least 15 or 16 volunteers who worked with Miller. Packard said the SPCA was "sensationalizing" the rescue effort and that he would organize as many supporters as he could to come to Miller's defense.

Royetta Alston of Central Islip said she came to the rescue center to drop off a dog about a year ago and has been volunteering there ever since. She said she is a friend of Miller's. "She loves these animals," Alston said. "It's going to kill her taking them away."

I see no responses yet! I don't really have an answer for you either but there was a time, back in the day, that I did the same type of rescue, mostly for cats. If anyone that didn't know came in, they would think I was abusive. I took in the sick, the elderly, the abused. I took in the thrown away, the dumpster kitties, the 3 legged, the one eyed. The ones with FIP, feline leukemia, any cat that needed a place to be cared for and loved till the time came for rainbow bridge. Things are not always as they appear.
I have no idea how the SPCA is now. Politics do play a big role in Brookhaven so I hope you get some honest answers.

Thanks J5K5LY... it is suspected that it was exactly as you say, but everyone who might really know something has zipped their lips, and everyone else is really tearing this woman apart. It's no wonder to me that she does not respond to their "inquiries."

Sheesh.
