$12.00 PER PERSON to get on the beach!?

It was $10.00 last year, and I think $7.00 the year before.

The beach isn't getting any nicer, what gives???

New York is the only place I've been to in the US where you have to pay to go to the beach.

I think we had this discussion on another thread. The family pass is the way to go, not sure how much that is these days though.

So there you go. If you are a resident it isn't a bad deal, if you aren't you might want to consider options in the town you do live in.

Still it's kinda crazy. I'm not a beach person, I work in LB and often take my lunch hour walking the boardwalk, so I just caught the $12.00/pp charge yesterday.

They're nuts.

It is high. I love the beach there but I doubt I will go for that price, especially since I went All In for $50 at Tobay for the season. At least the Boardwalk is free...for now.

exactly... for now.

they have the ramps going to the boardwalk, it's only a matter of time to charge for that as well.

I live in Long Beach and I can answer this question - the beach is more crowded than ever and that's the problem. The 12 bucks is population control.

Ever since the LIRR cancelled most of the bus service from Freeport to Jones Beach, Long Beach has been really the only option for those who live in NYC.

I have to say, the beach must be at least 30% more crowded than last year on any given day - even when I come home after work on a week day. Residents pay $50 bucks which hasn't changed. To be honest, I wish the city would raise it to $15 for individuals - it's just way too crowded.

You can't have a free beaches in NY. They would get too crowded. We have too many people living here.

oh and they can't charge for boardwalk access - that would be impossible since a lot of buildings open up on to it. If you don't like the beach charge, then please go to another beach. It's that simple. Nobody is making you come to Long Beach.
