"We are thrilled," said Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray. "This [restaurant] would have ruined the neighborhood and surrounding blocks of well-established residential homes."
She's THRILLED!
A stupid fast food restaurant on Sunrise Highway was going to ruin the neighborhood?
Uh, if you don't want to be near commercial establishments like fast food restaurants, DON'T BUY A HOUSE RIGHT ON TOP OF SUNRISE HIGHWAY! Duh!
OH THE DRAMA!
I wonder how many White Castles that one has scarfed down in her day! She's always out for a photo op, that's for sure. Can someone tell me why we keep reelecting her?
I haven't followed the story that closely but I think an aspect to the opposition was that White Castle tends to be open 'round the clock, or to 3-4 a.m., hence the fear of drunks and rowdies wandering into residential areas in the middle of the night.
Thank the almighty that Massapequa is enlightened enough to have a WC.
Although it seems ridiculous to ban an restaurant from Sunrise Highway, it seems WC was going to take over nearly the whole block and remove homes that were on the south side of the Sunrise. I think I would be a little leary too when they start removing homes that buffer noise from businesses on Sunrise...especially an all night drive thru.
I'm anxiously anticipating a nice glossy full color mailer with Kate's picture all over it declaring a victory for all her hard work in defending the residents quality of life in Bellmore.
