Brookhaven National Laboratories in Shoreham, Long Island and Fishers Island in Millstone, Connecticut, found trace amounts of radioactive iodine that officials think came from Japan's nuclear leak. Should we be stocking up on Potassium Iodide? Metro - newyork : Blog : Metro City Desk : Radiation discovered in New York state
Found here in NC too.....I'm hearing it's no more radiation than you'd get on an average flight - but who knows? It's the gubmint giving the info...same people who said Ground Zero was safe after 9/11.

yep, you have to question the gubmint these days, I thought of 9/11 too and the "safe" remarks . If anybody sees mutated fish washing up on the shore or birds dropping dead out of nowhere, please inform us.
We use to do above ground nuclear tests years ago and no one glowed in the dark.
More things to worry about here on Long Island...like where the next Sonic is opening...important things like that.
What about the impact of this radiation on the food chain? What we're exposed to in the air might be minimal, but the marine life, plant life and such which sustain us are being exposed, too. What happens as we ingest and build up radiation in our systems through the food chain?
without a regular sampling of radiation measurements to compare to, how can anyone know this radiation is from Japan? I find it hard to believe our air is being tested on a regular basis.

Don't worry. The last I heard no one lives forever. I'll have your serving of lobster..thank you.

Given the potential for terrorism via dirty bombs, daily testing is possible.
Who knows?

Anyone walking through the Atlantic Terminal LIRR station on the lower concourse from the subways has had to see the machine chained to a pole..its an air sampler. Obviously there to check the air for toxins and other terrorist threats.
As far as the Japanese are concerned..we radiated them 60 years ago..its now a bit of payback.

Ah, yes. I suppose the earthquake/tsunami was payback for Pearl Harbor.
