Hi All!
I have Geico for my car and the husband has Allstate. We want to combine our auto and get homeowner's insurance as we recently purchased a house.

We were told Geico has complaints if you get into an accident.. they take a long time to get you the $ and they don't give you all that you need.

Any suggestions about Geico, Allstate, or State Farm?

Thanks!

I'd go with Allstate or State Farm if they will take you. I've worked in insurance for years, and I've dealt with people from just about every company. You get what you pay for as far as how well the staff is trained. GEICO has a huge turnover because they are so difficult to work for (every place I've temped there is a handful of former GEICO employees who couldn't wait to get out). A company like GEICO is ok if you have an average run of the mill claim but if you hit a car load of Intel Science Finalists and get sued for everything you own, trust me you do not want a person working in a call center that has timed bathroom breaks handling your claim. You can't even believe the stuff I've had to explain not only to the employees of some of these companies but to the attorneys that they employ for your defense.

While the masses seem to flock to Geico and Allstate - Amica is far superior based on my own personal experience and that of the folks at Consumer Reports.

^^^ Yes, I've heard they are good. Utica too (though they are pricey but I hear they pay everything).

Got the best price from Utica for both home and auto packaged together. Never heard of them before and never needed to submit a claim until recently when a man decided to turn into me while sitting still. I tried to go through their insurance, but it obviously wasn't going to be to my liking. Submitted a claim through Utica and was paid in full within 2 weeks. I have to admit, I was very surprised and happy about how easy they made my experience.

If either of you are past military you are eligible for USAA which is an excellent firm.

Ive had geico for over 30 years and pay a very low amount for the premium. Of course, i do not drive like most automotive animals on lon island and have never had a claim. Geico, from what i hear, is a tough company to get a settlement from if you are not the insured but they pay quickly to their insured for damage to your car. If more people drived defensively to avoid accidents they wouldnt be posting to find how to save money on their insurance. Dont get tickets or into chargeable accidents and you wont have a problem

Thank you so much everyone; we will look into the items posted. We are both very good drivers, but some things are obviously out of your control.

I have been with State Farm for 30 years and am most happy with the discounts I get. Regardless of which agency you choose ensure you like and understand the agent.
