Looking for a ballpark figure so I know how much monetary value a pool adds to a house and some education since I am clueless on the topic.
They usually don't add any value to a house. But maybe one of our RE agents will weigh in on that. Throw me in the category that didn't want to look at houses with pools.

we have a heated 20 x 40 but i sincerely doubt we will heat it often; it's about $60 a pop. luckily, previous owner left me a year of chemicals. i will just need someone to open and close it for the season but weekly maintenance doesn't seem so bad

Black mailboxes are easily to deal with compared to a removal of an above ground pool.

There is so much inventory out there that allows me to be so picky.

If I really liked the house and it had an above ground pool I would negotiate it's removal in the price but again, there is so much inventory out there I will find what I want. And this seller will find someone who would not mind an above ground pool.

Just my 2 cents

Easy for the seller to get rid of if you don't want it. My sister had an unpermitted AG pool when she sold her house - she put an ad on craigslist to sell it - 3 days later a young couple came over, dismantled the whole thing and took it away. They were thrilled to get a 4 year old pool for $500 and my sister was thrilled to get rid of it so easily.

IGP is a different story - you're taking away a pool of buyers who won't even look at them and they are not so easily dealt with during the selling process.

Took me less than a full day to take down and remove the pool when I bought this house. Took it to the scrap yard and got approximately $300.00 for the metal.(aluminum) A little top soil and grass seed, you never knew it was there. So if I was buying or selling, it's an easy fix.
Tried to avoid in ground pools but would have bought a house with one if that was the biggest drawback.

Good to know they are easily removed. Thanks.

Guess its a love it or hate it with pools.

But one question....what do you folks do when its 95 degrees on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in August?

Sit indoors? Sweat it out on the porch?

When I lived on LI, we joined the G.C. pool every summer. We have a neighborhood pool here, .3 miles down the road so we go there.

I'm not a beach person, so I prefer going to a pool. I have a friend who put one in because she didn't like having to schlep to the giant town pool. It wasn't so bad in G.C. - usually the first 2 weeks would be unbearably crowded and then it would be completely managable...although I did notice the last 2 summers we lived there the beach house/beach club people must have taken a financial hit because the pool was more crowded than ever.

It's funny when we were kids I always swore I would have a house with a pool - begged my dad for one every summer but with cesspools IGP was out and he wasn't going to spring for AG. Oh well! Just doesn't appeal to me with kids but we had a drowning in the family so that has colored my perceptions as well.

Probably the two worse things to own on the Island and generally anywhere are :

1. A boat

2. A pool

Use a fan. Tough it out.
