In the future it will take 30-40 minutes from Central Suffolk to Manhattan (Riverhead: salary, live)

Book it. There's no reason it shouldn't be that fast anyway...a 100 MPH train or flying machine would do the trick easily.
Make LI a part of Japan, where mag-lev, etc., trains are common and they actually give a ^$^$#)*% about their public, and it could happen.
Otherwise, forget it! The MTA doesn't play that!
The MTA and its public sector unions have better things to do with OUR money ... like have everybody retire with pensions larger than salary (due to "violating work rule" boondoggles) or retire with "disability" pensions while they are still non-disabled and young enough to play 18 holes and play singles tennis. A faster train for the commuters? God forbid! The LIRR only runs to make a super-entitled workplace for the union members. The only thing the commuters are good for is a captive audience to pay ever-increasing fares for ever-decreasing service.
If you want super fast and efficient trains on LI, build another RR and don't let the MTA and public sector unions get in.
PS: Welcome back! I see you are on your favorite rant (as am I).
Haha thank you. I'm headed into the city tomorrow so it just made me think of how slow the LIRR is once again. 1 hour and 22 minutes to go only 50 miles is just sad. If you live anywhere within about 50 miles of the border of any borough of NYC, it should take 45 minutes TOPS to get there via train in 2012. To get to Queens should take 30 minutes. You would think the same island that developed the lunar module to put a man on the moon could figure out a way to get a 100 MPH train to bring in more business into the city, slashing commutes from 1 hour 20 minutes to 30-45 minutes and making it possible for people out in Riverhead and points similar to commute into NYC.
Ok? What does East Side access have to do with anything? First of all it's like 50 years too late this should have been done years ago. And while I understand new tracks will be added, I don't think commute via LIRR will be any faster from Ronkonkoma. Probably the same 1 hour and 20 minutes to go 50 miles at a slug paced 39 MPH.
It'll never happen. The MTA is making a ton of money and demand is only increasing. No need for real innovation.
