I'm breeding Griffins to carry me into Manhattan daily. Oh sure, they're voracious killing machines, but I'll just board them at All-American burger. They love the taste of pre-cut fries.
Ok? What does East Side access have to do with anything? First of all it's like 50 years too late this should have been done years ago. And while I understand new tracks will be added, I don't think commute via LIRR will be any faster from Ronkonkoma. Probably the same 1 hour and 20 minutes to go 50 miles at a slug paced 39 MPH.
This will save you time if you work on the East Side, and should increase MTAs capacity to move more people and LIRR trains, in and out of NY. This is likely the closest thing you will see to cutting down your commute time. I wouldn't hold my breath on a 100 mph train.
LOL , LIRR Fails at everything....while NJT is the king the Railroads...in terms of speed...and by the end of the decade with ridership...those switches at Jamaica are so old....

Actually, they spent a lot of money upgrading those switches at Jamaica recently ... and they failed and there was a big mess for the PM commute last year because of that.

Haha thank you. I'm headed into the city tomorrow so it just made me think of how slow the LIRR is once again. 1 hour and 22 minutes to go only 50 miles is just sad. If you live anywhere within about 50 miles of the border of any borough of NYC, it should take 45 minutes TOPS to get there via train in 2012. To get to Queens should take 30 minutes. You would think the same island that developed the lunar module to put a man on the moon could figure out a way to get a 100 MPH train to bring in more business into the city, slashing commutes from 1 hour 20 minutes to 30-45 minutes and making it possible for people out in Riverhead and points similar to commute into NYC.
It takes 30-35 min. via LIRR to Penn from my station and it's only 17 miles.

are you a regular commuter via NJ Transit? Most folks I know who rely on it every day aren't quite so complimentary.

Well, they're looking at it all wrong. While it maay have issues with equipment, timelieness and value....it IS a way out of Jersey. That alone makes it a wondrous thing to behold.

With LIMA behind the controls, anything's possible...
