Besides beach, pizza, bagels and being in the shadow of NYC why should someone move to the Island?
What opportunities are available to someone starting out?
How easy is it to start a business?
Which companies are moving into the area?
What are my options for housing and lifestyle?

Believe it or not this is a serious question that I'd really like to see answered.
So if you were going to sell someone from out of the area on why they should move to Island, what would you put before them?

People move to the island when they want more space and less congestion than the boroughs.
People move to the island when they want to be in commuting distance to NYC.
People move to the island to be driving distance from family in LI or the boroughs.

Every area has it's ups and downs, positives and negatives. I can move to North Carolina and buy a cheaper home with cheaper taxes, sure. But I would not have a job nor can I easily find one. And I would not know anyone or anything. I think Long Island has so many positives, with the only negative being cost of homes and taxes. But I think based on our location, it is absolutely worth the cost to live here. It's not like Manhattan is any cheaper to live by far, so to be able to commute to Manhattan but live in a nice suburb near the beach and shopping and restaurants, etc, is why MOST people move to Long Island.

Although were not recruiting, I would say that LI is really abundant in natural beauty and a fantastic place to live if you love the water.

The worst thing you could say about it is the cost but it does have easy access to jobs both locally (BNL,USB,CA,Canon,Pall,PCH,Cablevision, etc etc etc) and in NYC.

There are certainly worse places to have a Staycation than LI and this place would be paradise with a Million less people.
I for one am happy that the bottom is leaving for Tarnation.

I wont argue with you or validate your flee, this is my final post here.
To each his own. Im happy here and the more I travel the more I see the value it represents.

I hear the town of Brookhaven is going to demolish your house, pave your property, and build as many condos as they can fit on it. Get out while you can.

Why? Are you planning to come back and need some convincing?

I think it's up to the individual whether they want to live here or not. I do not need to do any convincing. Just kinda funny how here is the only place in the country that renters pay the real estate fee, isn't it? And it is a whole month's rent or MORE, not an insignificant tiny sum. If the place is so useless and undesirable, how do they get away with that? In Tarnation the landlords typically have to give 1 month free rent and new appliances and choices of color of new carpet and drapes to tempt a $10 an hour tenant who hopefully will be able to stay employed at Piggly Wiggly. As crooks would say, they buy turd polish by the 50 gallon drum.

Besides the beaches I will go with.,.... the wineries, proximity to professional sports, broadway shows, concerts, good paying jobs, skiing in 3 hours, 2 hrs from Philly, 4 hrs from Boston, 3 airports within 45 mins, fishing, hunting, unlimited things to do with kiddies, casino and horse-racing 35 mins away, friends & family, 4 real seasons, excellent healthcare....

This is what keeps me here!!
