Found a small house to rent over there the schools seem pretty decent however I'm not from the area and I don't see anything sketchy about it. Is there anything about it that would make you tell some not to live there? Is it safe enough for a family?
Yes, definitely safe and nothing sketchy. People here don't like Valley Stream bc it borders Queens and attracts a different crowd. But in my experience, I never see a bad crowd spilling out into the neighborhoods.
I like Valley Stream but we live near the area so I'm used to it. As for you, if you're not familiar with the area, there isn't the most to do. So if I were you, before buying, make sure you hang around your neighborhood/have a meal somewhere and make sure you like neighborhood enough.
It's not sketchy and it's a decent family neighborhood.
What I have picked up from this board is that unless you select Garden City, Manhasset, or... people pretty much will tell you that the school is horrible and that the neighborhood is in rapid decline.
also Long Island has a lot of air traffic, if air plane noise is bothersome to you, like it is to me, you might want to take notice of the flight patterns in the neighborhood.
well i found valley stream some what I affordable. I grew up in Westbury and to rent over there is expensive unless its in new cassel which isn't safe. I live in queens and I am used to jet noise. I just need to feel safe and send my child to a decent school. The schools by me are terrible. The schools in valley stream are much better. If I could find a decent school for him I could skip over the 600 dollars I pay in tuition and get a better place to live.
