hi-just saw part of a newscast on chanel 12 about needing to register with the state for the STAR rebate. anyone happen to know the phone number? thanks
Not to get off topic, but I recall a thread (and I believe I also read in the paper) that homeowners would need to register every year but according to the website it states:
New legislation requires all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the New York State Tax Department in order to receive the exemption in 2014 and subsequent years.
Homeowners will not have to register in order to receive their 2013 STAR exemptions.
Homeowners will not have to re-register every year. Based on the information provided in the registration process, the Tax Department will monitor homeowners' eligibility in future years.
If I already receive the Basic STAR exemption, would I still need to re-register? Or does the above only apply to NEW homeowners who haven't previously registered?
Basic Star registration forms going out next month to all homeowners. All have to re-register this year only because some people are ripping off the system with duplicate claims etc. Imagine that.
Enhanced Star (seniors) have to register every year.

It's my understanding (based on the letter that I received at home) that everyone has to register for 2014 STAR, but you won't have to register again after that.

Ahh, ok. Thanks!!
I'll keep on the look out for the letter. I just checked the website again--looks like I need a code.
WOW - so, I just tried registering online and it prompted me for a STAR Code, which I don't have. So, I tried looking it up and my property doesn't come up at all, so I called the number they listed to try to learn my code and after running around the menu for a while, it says I have a 20 minute wait to speak to a representative... just to get my code. Nuts.
They told me I would get it in the mail in a couple of weeks.
