if the renovated coliseum is going to hold about the same number of people as the Barclays, but be much better suited for watching hockey, why not just keep the team in Nassau?
Who knows what Ratner is up to?! Like he couldn't easily tweak the design to pop another 1000 seats in?! I don't think the Islander issue is settled yet, but who knows? I'm a cynic.
also the ice even seemed more off center then I expected.
The ice is off centered. Why? To actually LIMIT the number of obstructed view seating. That place is just not built for hockey and there really is no easy way to fix it.

I believe they are downsizing it to 13k-14k seating capacity (adjustable to much less). Along with a new amphitheater/ice skating rink (winter), veterans memorial, 5 or 6 restaurants, bowling alley, movie theater.

which is about what the Barclays will hold for hockey. I say move them to Brooklyn for a couple of years while the coliseum is renovated, and then bring them back. Or have them play home games at MSG for 2 years (they'd almost certainly draw more fans there than in Brooklyn). Getting involved with Ratner on this never made sense to me.
Badminton? Why not give Roller Derby the palace that it always deserved.
Roller Derby is still alive and well and kicks azz. Bring it to the arena and get it back on a banked track. Tattoo'd chicks on roller skates beating on each other? Can't be beat!

That's not a bad idea. Maybe if attendance at Barclays is abysmal that might be something they look at. From what I gathered on it, Ratner's more focused on bringing college sports in, minor league hockey, boxing, synergies with events at Barclays as well.. along with the usual shows, concerts, circus, etc.
