The area around the train station is inhabited predominantly by owner occupied middle class white people and some Hispanic renters. The only area that is full of renters is the area directly across from the station and behind the Fairview Apartments, in the multifamily homes there.

You will see hardworking people of all races and ethnicities walking in the area making the train from Plainview, Farmingdale, and North Amityville as well. They are too busy working and raising their families to mug anyone

Ooh look, the ghetto......

Clearly a garden apartment for miscreants....

Perhaps you should look up the demographics of chicken franchises and see where they do best. Then you wouldn't be reading everything by throwing the race card out.

Your thoughts on blacks and gays are well documented on this forum.

Thanks to all of you answering my question. You guys are really helpful!

@grilba: The two areas from your links do not look bad. The apartments (Fairview Apartments and the one near lirr) you mentioned look nice.

Do you mean these two areas are probably targeted by miscreants around the areas? Or they are full of miscreants?

Possibly the dumbest, most unsubstantiated, racist bunk ever put to type, even for you. KFC's busiest location is in Beijing! Must be all the "diversity" [wink, wink]. The busiest Chick Fil A is in Atlanta's International airport! Should we research the demographics of watermelon eaters next?!

I think he meant that those areas are actually perfectly fine, and his "ooh look, the ghetto" was sarcasm.

It was sarcasm. It is for the most part a middle class area.

ETA: OP, that may not be what you meant here, but in general, when you're given vague advice like "oh, I don't know how safe that area is," about basically middle class areas like Farmingdale, it's code for "I've seen brown people there."
I thought brown people only meant Indians??? Those guys are harmless!

Don't you wink at Asians! That's just not right.

I live in farming dale! south farming dale. When I was looking to buy, the area by Conklin, especially north of it, was very seedy. Wherever you see Bodega and check cashing places, you know it isn't a good area. You aren't going to see those things in Syosset. I was walking around a track by St Killian a few weeks ago on Friday at 8pm and it looked like the Bronx. About 10 "immigrants" hanging on the corner outside the Bodega for over an hour. They sure weren speaking English. They were loud and they weren't kids. More like 30 yrs old and older. If you don't mind these people hanging alrund outside all night and drinking, then this is the place for you. I wouldn't put mynfamily on that area. To each their owns good luck.

I was walking near the track last week too. I saw the football team practicing, the cheerleader tryouts, and yes, people near the two taquerias (one of which has rave reviews and one "best of Long Island" award, btw) relaxing while waiting for food. It is cramped inside and warm. I wait outside often while waiting for my food to be freshly and deliciously prepared.
