Oh, yes it is.

If your house was on fire in that area, "who you gonna call?"

Are you referring to the fire district? That might be something different, however:

None of the hamlet of North Massapequa is in the Seaford CDP. Route 107 is the dividing line between the two.

He was asking about cesspools/oil in another thread, whether or not to avoid them. So I was just saying to avoid them at all costs and just go to a Massapequa.

Yes. You can be in the North Massapequa Fire District, Seaford Postal District and Plainedge School District, any of which matter a whole lot more than the meaningless "Census Designated Place."

Your fire district does not determine what hamlet or CDP you live in, it's just another layer of services for which to be taxed. Just because the closest firehouse to certain Seaford addresses might be N Mass, doesn't mean the houses are in N Massapequa.

However you can not live in North Massapequa and have a Seaford, NY 11783 zip code, just like one can not live in Seaford and have a North Massapequa/Massapequa zip code of 11758. That is my point.

You did not state 'fire district', which makes your original post (shown above) misleading. After all, how many people buy a home based on fire district as opposed to school district?

Someone looking for a home in North Massapequa has to concern themselves with whether the house will be in the Plainedge, Massapequa, or Farmingdale school district.

Someone looking for a home in Seaford has to concern themselves with whether the house will be in Seaford, Levittown, Island Trees, or Plainedge school districts. (A scant number of Seaford homes are in the latter two districts.)

Where are the physical boundaries of a hamlet delineated? And what is the correct answer to the question "where do you live?" if you live near the east end of Old Post Road?

Seaford is lucky to be covered by 3 excellent school districts and has a buffer zone of non ghetto villages. But it can be confusing.....

Seaford south of Jerusalem ave goes to Seaford HS.

North of Jerusalem to just north of East Broadway School goes to Levittown MacArthur.

North till St James Church goes to Island Trees.

I've never heard of anyone from Seaford attending Plainedge schools. The section near Old Post Rd is actually Bethpage which attends Plainedge Schools.

To confuse you even more there is a section called PLAINEDGE by Jackie Reilys Bar that is actually LEVITTOWN and attends Island Trees Schools but has a Plainedge mailing address with a Levittown zip code even though Plainedge is not a real village.

Old Post Road is in Seaford, so is Kingsberry and at least part of Florence
(By that, I mean they are in the Seaford postal district and zip code - no one has been able to say if the boundaries of a hamlet and post office are identical. Forget about Census Designated Area.)

Yes, just north on the east side is bethpage...plainedge schools. Whoever drew up the area must have been on some nasty drugs. Half of Kingsberry is Bethpage....you can tell by the TOB recycle cans.
