Where are the physical boundaries of a hamlet delineated? And what is the correct answer to the question "where do you live?" if you live near the east end of Old Post Road?
The east end of Old Post Road, and a portion of the streets immediately south of it are Seaford.

Seaford is lucky to be covered by 3 excellent school districts and has a buffer zone of non ghetto villages. But it can be confusing.....
Seaford south of Jerusalem ave goes to Seaford HS.
North of Jerusalem to just north of East Broadway School goes to Levittown MacArthur.
North till St James Church goes to Island Trees. Not quite. a fraction of this is in Plainedge school district. I've listed Seaford addresses in Plainedge schools below.
I've never heard of anyone from Seaford attending Plainedge schools. The section near Old Post Rd is actually Bethpage which attends Plainedge Schools. The section near Old Post is Seaford 11783 attending Plainedge Schools
To confuse you even more there is a section called PLAINEDGE by Jackie Reilys Bar that is actually LEVITTOWN and attends Island Trees Schools but has a Plainedge mailing address with a Levittown zip code even though Plainedge is not a real village.
My Plainedge school friends who lived in Seaford, NY 11783 lived on Rutherford (just south of Old Post), Wicks Ave & Jerome St (west of 107, 1/2 mile south of SSP), Alken Ave, Hillcrest Dr, Gilling rd & Well Ct (the neighborhood west of 107 just south of St James RC Church in Seaford), Kildare Crescent (just south of Old Post), Kingsberry Rd (just north of Old Post), Daleview (<1/2 mile south of the SSP),Dogwood Lane (the side street just north of Behr's), Meadow Ln (between Wicks and Dogwood, west of 107), Florence (which runs into Old Post on the north side), Sandra (north of Old Post, west of 107). There's other small streets off of those which are Seaford zip, Plainedge schools, but it has been too long for me to recall all of them.
Plainedge is also a hamlet, which in 1957 petitioned for its own Post Office The USPO turned the residents down. As a result of that, Plainedge residents are served by Bethpage, Massapequa, Seaford, Levittown, and Farmingdale post office.
To add to the Old Post question: Some of the streets I listed above (Hillcrest, Florence, and Sandra) are bisected. The east side of Hillcrest and Florence, along with the west half of Sandra are in the zipless Hamlet of Plainedge.

Not at all. I said parts are Seaford, North Massapequa and Plainedge combined.
I have also noted that there seems to be no such thing as a delineated "hamlet" boundary unique from a postal district There actually is. The census bureau has a hamlet map available which does not share all the same boundaries as USPS zip code 11758 North Massapequa/Massapequa. This is what the late Walter Greenspan referred to as non coterminous boundaries. and nobody cares about a CDA. CDP is probably what you meant, and yes, government statisticians care.
So, if you live on Old Post Road, "where do you live?" IN SEAFORD if it is between Rutherford and 107; in Levittown if it is west of Rutherford.

NONE of North Massapequa is in Seaford. If you buy a house on Old Post Road, west of Rutherford, according to mynassauproperty, you are living in Seaford, NY 11783 and paying school taxes to Plainedge School District.

All true. I'm in Seaford (south of Jerusalum) and kids attend Seaford schools. My wife grew up on Kingsberry road (just off Old Post) - Seaford address, and she attended Island Trees. Kingsberry has a split with some homes zoned for IT, and others for Plainedge. The ironic part is, the closest school to my wife was East Broadway (part of Levittown SD). That area is a zoning mess...

Again half of old post attends ISLAND TREES. The area north of there is BETHPAGE which attends PLAINEDGE. The rest is SEAFORD 11783 attending ISLAND TREES.
You pay about double the school taxes in Seaford schools than Island Trees for an equal size district. Seaford and Plainedge have limited commercial property. Definetly something to consider if moving into the area.

Okay, some of what the Fire Department calls North Massapequa is in Seaford, satisfied? Family members who lived in the area, east of Rutherford, for forty years answered "Plainedge" when they were asked even though the Seaford Post Office delivered the mail. I guess they were wrong because obviously you can't be.

There is no such thing as PLAINEDGE.....its a school district.
