All those new condos and even the blue ones further north of the stadium are nice. The blue ones have been there for years and have not changed. The folks I know in them send their kids to St. John of god(k-8th) on Carleton Ave in CI. Next year it will either be St. Anthony's or St. John's.
The Target shopping center with Home Depot and TGIFs is fine, never an issue. But for anything else I would head to East Islip or Islip.

Best of luck.

Do you live nearby or in Islip Landing? Curious what your thoughts are about the surrounding amenities/location of shopping centers.

It would also be a decent cost savings for us as well, so private school would be an option down the road. Any idea where most folks send their kids? I figured St. Johns is the HS of choice, assuming you're going catholic.

While those condos are a vast improvement from the old Carlton Park neighborhood which they replaced (that was a disaster back in the day), you need to remember that on LI the location really matters and the location value is largely driven by the schools. CI is not a good school district, and that will depress your home value. They build really nice apartments in Wyandanch recently with a lot of retail space, but, again, the location - and the school district - is an impediment. They cannot get any decent retailers in the office space. For the money, you should seriously reconsider other options. You cannot change location, and you are betting on the quality of the location changing in your favor.

Originally from the Farmingville area so feel like in general I know the shopping areas 15-20 minutes away.

The part of Queens we live in is not the best, and we would likely have to go the private route here as well, so is likely not a big deal. thanks for the added info there.

These new condos range from 275k-300k, with a number of aesthetic upgrades available.

You apparently missed the MS13 gang members hacking up teen aged members of rival gangs.

^^ With that kind of $ I would get over the "brand new" feeling and buy a starter house in a decent school district.

And if they keep looking they will find many more. Not just in Brentwood either! All over the bad LI towns that illegals flock to for a reason....

Lot's of hope in CI- but like the rest of LI the issue is the increasing lack of local high paying jobs. The double track project on the LIRR should improve train service in the area in coming years.

There are tons of extracurricular activities, and a big chunk of the student body is in Honors and AP. And there are cool electives as well.

I truly feel like I got a great education, and I wouldn't want a potential home buyer to scoff at the school district based off some arbitrary number from a website.
Those ratings are based only off of test scores in relation to the rest of the state. A 5 means that a school is straight in the middle in terms of test averages in comparison to the rest of the state and doesn't mean that the school is bad. It doesn't take school programs, graduation rates, student makeup or anything else into account. Great Schools even has a section explaining this. Ratings | GreatSchools
