Greetings,

Just wondering what state laws or taxes apply to the installation of a wood burning stove for home heating. Not looking for code explanation more so if there are environmental taxes associated with this or even incentives to do this in the way of rebates.

Thanks all!

No special tax nor incentive for wood burning stoves in NYS.

Good to hear that, a friend had mentioned the POSSIBILITY of there being some sort of tax. Nice relief knowing there is not. Time to start budgeting for this!

Also check out Renewable Heat NY I got an $1100.00 check back from the government after my last wood stove purchase maybe five years ago. I would see if that program still exists, ask a wood stove retailer. Wood is considered a renewable source of fuel.

Found this by searching wood stove tax credit 2017

Federal. 2017: The federal tax credit for wood and pellet biomass heaters expired as of Jan. 1, 2017 and is not available to consumers. ... Stoves are eligible for the $300 tax credit if the manufacturer certifies that it is 75% efficient or higher.

Some insurance companies can break balls about wood burning stoves.
There are codes regarding the install.
Distance from walls & flammable materials, non combustible base, etc...
